Summary:
As the assistant controller in a growing, face-paced team, you will be responsible for managing all day to day activities of the accounts payable team and payroll. You will assist and help lead the team in closing month end and prepare and maintain financial and management reports for internal and external reporting purposes.
Main responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, IFRS and Company Procedures.
- Plan, develop, and implement accounting policies and procedures.
- Perform a variety of month end duties, including journal entries, analyzing, coding, billing, reconciliations, confirmations and summaries within established time frames.
- Supervision of Accounts Payable and Payroll Specialist
- Participate in a variety of special projects by leading/overseeing the project through to completion or by conducting detailed analysis of the advantages, risks or concerns to the company:
- Budgeting
- Year End
- Financial Internal Audits
- Financial External Audits
- Efficiency Improvement Projects
- Assist in Government Audits (sales tax, corporate tax etc.).
- Work with other departments in recommending and implementing approved solutions.
- Financial analysis of business unit and support key business unit decisions.
- Respond to requests for information from Parent Company (Corporate).
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Prepare F/S & management reports.
- Completion of Yearly PMP’s.
- Complete additional job duties and assignments up to 15% of the time.
Requirements:
Qualifications and experience:
- Completion or in progress of completing a recognized accounting program, such as the CPA is an asset.
- Five years financial analysis experience. Manufacturing environment would be an asset, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Strong problem solving and decision-making abilities.
- Attention to detail
- Well-developed organizational skills with the ability to manage a variety of tasks.
- Strong proficiency with MS Office programs including: Word, Excel, Access, Outlook and PowerPoint; and, the ability to learn other applications quickly.
- Proficient in GAAP, IFRS and Audit Control.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Proven ability to mentor and train junior employees.
- Knowledge of the manufacturing industry would be an asset.
