Job Summary

Ancillary Services delivers services to students as well as to the greater Dalhousie and business community including: on-campus residence, food services, university bookstores, conference services, off-campus housing listing service, and university ID (DalCard) among others. Reporting to the Assistant Directors, Facilities Operations ( ADFO ), the Manager is responsible for the daily operations of traditional residence buildings. The position is essential in maintaining a comfortable, secure, positive living environment conducive to the academic and personal development of residents and to ensure compliance to all University policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities Responsible for the planning and coordination of small projects (up to $300,000 per project). Ensures project timelines and budget are met. Advise ADFO of operational or budget risks and impacts.

Oversees in house Maintenance system (MRFs) with Utility Service Persons (USPs) with approximately 4,000 tickets annually from residence students.

Responsible for the planning, tracking, communication, and coordination of day-to-day maintenance for Food Service operations in Residence Dining Halls and retail locations.

Responsible to prepare and maintain the facilities operating costs of the budgets for day-to-day maintenance costs for all Halifax campus residences with annual budgets.

Responsible to coordinate and monitor the transition from the academic year to summer operations ensuring a smooth conversion and to meet the tourism licensing standards.

Investigates suppliers and gathers quotes to inform the procurement process. Manage the physical inventory of all assets and develops an inventory replacement program.

Note Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.

Required Qualifications Undergraduate degree in a relevant field, plus approximately three to five years’ experience in facilities management, hotel/food operations, budgeting, administrative responsibilities (or equivalent combination of training and experience).

Excellent project management skills and experience with public speaking.

Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.

Must demonstrate initiative and work well both in a team environment and with a high degree of autonomy.

Supervisory experience.

Assets Experience in a post-secondary education institution.
