Role Overview

As a Music Specialist & Early Childhood Educator, you will bridge the gap between music education and early childhood learning, providing an enriching, holistic educational experience for students aged 3 to 18. This role demands creativity, flexibility, and a deep understanding of both musical instruction and child development principles.

Key Responsibilities

- Integrated Music Instruction: Develop and deliver music lessons that are age-appropriate, engaging, and tailored to the developmental stages of children and adolescents. Your curriculum will encompass a wide range of musical styles and cater to varying levels of ability.

- Early Childhood Engagement: For our youngest learners (ages 3-5), integrate music into the broader curriculum of our licensed childcare centre, using songs, instruments, and movement to support their cognitive, emotional, and social development.

- Performance and Collaboration: Lead students in preparing for and participating in performances that showcase their growth and learning. Work closely with other educators and staff to create a cohesive, interdisciplinary approach to arts education.

- Curriculum Development: Continuously assess and evolve the music curriculum to meet the needs and interests of students, incorporating both traditional and innovative teaching methods.

- Community and Communication: Act as a bridge between the music department, childcare centre, students, and their families, fostering a supportive and inclusive community through regular updates, performances, and events.

Qualifications and Skills

- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Music, Music Education, or a related field. Certification in Early Childhood Education or equivalent experience working with young children in a learning environment.

- Experience: Proven track record of teaching music to a wide age range of students, from early childhood through adolescence. Experience in early childhood education settings is highly valued.

- Musical Expertise: Competency in music theory, harmony, history, and notation, along with performance skills in one or more instruments.

- Teaching Skills: Ability to design and implement dynamic, age-appropriate lesson plans that cater to diverse learning styles and levels of musical ability.

- Interpersonal Abilities: Exceptional communication and engagement skills, with a knack for building trust and enthusiasm among students, colleagues, and parents.

Conditions of Employment

- Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector.

- A willingness to contribute actively to all areas of music and early childhood initiatives.

- Flexibility to work various hours as required, including some travel within Whitehorse and to surrounding communities.
