Job description

Position Rationale:
The Bridge Technologist is responsible for providing technical support to Bridge Maintenance Operations. The technical support may include (but is not limited to) activities such as: customer development, project leadership, quantity take off, estimating, cost analysis, inspection, measuring, detailing, drafting, surveying, coordinate & review material testing, and quality control related to all aspects of the bridge maintenance and construction work.
General Responsibilities:
- Take a leadership role in assigned bridge maintenance and construction projects, coordinating tasks, and ensuring project milestones are met.
- Calculate and estimate quantities of materials and labor required for bridge maintenance projects.
- Analyze project costs, identify cost-saving opportunities, and ensure projects are completed within budget.
- Conduct inspections, measurements, and assessments of bridge structures to determine maintenance and repair needs.
- Create detailed drawings and plans for bridge maintenance projects, ensuring accuracy and compliance with standards.
- Perform surveys to gather data and information necessary for project planning and execution.
- Coordinate and review material testing processes to ensure the quality and integrity of construction materials.
- Implement quality control measures to guarantee the highest standards are met in bridge maintenance and construction work.
The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following:
Qualifications & Experience
- Registered Technologist with 5 years minimum of licensure, in good standing with the Association of Science & Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta (ASET) or a diploma in Civil Engineering Technology and/or equivalent Bridge Construction related experience.
- Project management experience with a demonstrated understanding and appreciation of budget and time constraints.
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft 365 Office applications.
- Knowledge of Alberta Transportation’s “Bridge Inspection and Maintenance” standards, methodology and manuals.
- Knowledge of various applicable Acts and Regulations.
- Knowledge of accepted bridge maintenance and construction practices.
- Knowledge of bridge construction specifications.
- Strong interpersonal oral and written communication skills.
- Strong client management and facilitation skills.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
