Job description
SBM is seeking an Intermediate Civil Project Lead to join the Civil Division in our London office. Reporting to the Civil Team Lead, the successful candidate will be required to manage and lead projects, review (and seal if applicable) their own and others design work, direct and mentor the design team, etc. for private and public sector projects across Ontario including land development projects for subdivisions and site plans for apartment buildings, commercial developments, parking lot replacements as well as road reconstruction projects.

The firm employs over 120 engineers, engineering trainees, technologists, technicians, planners, and administrative personnel.
Key Responsibilities:
- Preparation of Civil Engineering Design and Documents for projects related to land development and municipal projects such as subdivisions, site plans, road reconstructions, parking lot replacements, etc.
- Design of civil infrastructure including site servicing, grading, stormwater management, watermains, storm sewer, sanitary sewer, noise studies, etc.
- Project management duties including assisting with proposals, responsible for projects from the initiating to closing phases, being the main point of contact with project stakeholders, and being knowledgeable of the Site Plan Application process and Draft Plan conditions process
- Review designs (calculations and reports) and drawings to ensure accuracy, adequacy, and conformance to the design
- Coordinate daily team priorities to achieve project milestones
- Provide technical guidance to designers and junior staff
- When required, coordination for the preparation/review of tender/contract documents and act as tender and contract administrator
- When required, coordinate/review/assist field staff with site investigations, general reviews of construction, and preparation of field review reports
- Work within the project team environment from preliminary stages of the design through to completion
- Coordinate all aspects of projects with several discipline’s designs and drawings
- Represent the company with approval authorities and third parties for coordination
Skills / Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited Canadian University preferred
- Diploma (3 year) in Civil Engineering or Architectural Technology also considered
- 4+ years of experience in Civil Engineering, with a focus on consulting/design
- Registered or eligible for registration as a licensed Professional Engineer or L.E.T. with the Professional Engineers of Ontario preferred
- C.E.T., C.Tech., or PMP designations are also considered relevant designations as well as relevant experience through projects and previous references
- Experience with Provincial and local Municipality design guidelines, the Ontario Building Code, and other applicable Canadian Engineering standards. Knowledge of the Planning Act is considered an asset.
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and AutoCAD suites. Preference will be given to candidates with Civil3D experience

- Capable of working on and/or managing several projects at the same time and with the projects in different stages
- Knowledge of engineering software related to Civil engineering (EPANET, MIDUSS, others) would be considered an asset
Compensation:
This is a full-time position with a competitive salary and annual performance bonus. The successful candidate will typically work 8am-5pm Monday-Thursday and 8am-2:30pm on Fridays.
