Job description
YWCA Alder Gardens provides rent geared to income (RGI) housing for women and their children in Surrey. There is a community garden, outdoor play area and an amenity room.
The Community Development Coordinator for YWCA Alder Gardens will connect tenants with community resources and support the development of community within the housing site.
What you’ll be doing:
Meet with new tenants to provide orientation to their new housing and the community
Schedule, organize and facilitate monthly community meetings with tenants
Offer tenants resources, information and referrals on subjects such as child care, pre-employment training, counseling, education, health, food security.
Support the creation of tenant events/celebrations with tenants’ involvement
Support the development of workshops with tenants’ involvement
Responsible for fair distribution of donations
Supervise volunteers and practicum students
Participate in community committees
Distribute property management notices to tenants
Provide entry to vendors attending at the housing site
Report repair issues to property management through the repair portal
Coordinate with other YWCA programs, including employment programs and single mother’ services, volunteer coordinator to distribute information to tenants and/or have in for meetings, with tenant’s involvement
Providing tours to donors/donor groups
Create a monthly calendar that displays the monthly activities, speakers, workshops or events.
Liaise with fund development regarding donations of goods and services
Keep up to date on available resources and programs that may benefit the families
Responsible for tracking statistics and program outcomes
Other duties as required
What you’ll need:
Demonstrated knowledge of community development principles
Experience in facilitating group meetings
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Strong organizational and time management skills and able to prioritize duties
Appropriate professional boundaries
Knowledge of issues faced by lone parenting women
Knowledge of local and city-wide community services and skilled in researching resources
Familiar with trauma informed practice
Familiar with de-escalation
Team player
Able to work independently and be self-motivated
Experience with Computers: Microsoft 365, OneDrive, Teams, SharePoint, Word, Excel, Outlook and Zoom
Familiar with ADP, Concur, Condo Control, Safety Line, Relias
A valid clear criminal record check (including working with vulnerable populations) is required.
The YWCA Metro Vancouver’s COVID-19 vaccination policy is currently suspended and as a result, vaccination from COVID-19 is not required at this time. However, should circumstances change and the YWCA deem it necessary to reintroduce such policy, you may be required to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 in order to be eligible to continue performing your duties.

Pay Rate: $28.05
