Job description
Established in 1836 in Saint John, NB as T. McAvity & Sons, Clow Canada is the only national manufacture of fire hydrants, valves and ancillary products for the waterworks industry in Canada. We have a distribution center located in Medicine , Alberta. Clow Canada is wholly owned by McWane Inc. one of the largest manufactures of fire hydrants, valves and cast iron pipe in North America.
The company has an immediate full time staff opening in Saint John , NB for the position of:
Production Supervisor (Evening Shift)
Position Summary:
Plan and manage the workflow and hourly workers in the shop to maximize the efficiency/production hours (taking into consideration inventory) while respecting quality of product and on time delivery.
Instil ownership, accountability and leadership to continuously improve our processes and way of doing things.
This is an evening position with 4 ten hour shifts. Hours required are from 3:30 pm to 2 am, Monday to Thursday.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Knowledge and support of Company Quality Standards.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 and 14001
- Knowledge and support of Company Safety and Environmental Practices.
- Seek continuous improvement opportunities.
- Working knowledge of applicable software programs (i.e. ERP, Excel).
- Represent and support company initiatives.
- Support and develop a respectful workplace.
- Responsible for the training of new employees.
- Responsible for the scheduling of employees and their hours.
- Keep all employees up to date on company initiatives and industry news.
- Work with other team leaders to ensure the day to day operations run at peak efficiency.
- Monitor/supervise performance of all employees including discipline.
- Assist Plant Manager in managing employee attendance.
- Ability to conduct performance management meetings.
- Responsible to ensure all company practices, plant rules, policies or procedures, collective agreements are adhered to.
- Working with Inside Sales and Shipping to ensure on time delivery.
- Perform item cycle counts to ensure an accurate inventory.
- Promote Safety and ensure all standards are met or exceeded.
- Promote a team approach with all company employees.
- Deal with team conflicts when they arise.
- Ensure consistency of approach across the team.
- Work with team to develop training plans.
- Coach and motivate individual team members to improve their performance and productivity.
- Responsible for House Keeping & General Safety.
- Perform other duties as required.
Education, Knowledge and Skills:
Technical Skills/Attributes:
- Technology Diploma and/or Minimum 5 years' experience in an industrial setting.
Soft Skills/Attributes:
- Adhere to all McWane's Principle's, Values and Behaviours.
- Ownership and accountability to others and self
- Minimum of 5 years of Supervisory Experience
- Experience in a unionized setting
- Understanding of LEAN Principles

This position will report directly to the Production Manager.
