Office of the Chief Risk Officer

Environmental Health and Safety (EHS)

(Permanent and a Two-Year Contractual Position)

DUTIES

Reporting to the supervisor of field services, Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), the successful candidates will deliver EHS field services for Memorial University. Duties include, promoting occupational health and safety awareness by developing, implementing, and monitoring health and safety programs; providing oversight and guidance to design, construction, maintenance, technical and operations personnel on related process safety issues; engaging risk owners and advising on risk management decisions related to process safety concerns within their operations/activities; investigating EHS concerns, incidents, and recommending and coordinating implementation of corrective actions where applicable; advising and guiding management workplace health and safety committees; developing and delivering education and training as required; performing workplace inspections and assessments to ensure legislative compliance and preparing follow-up reports; conducting health and safety audits and preparing associated reports, including health and safety statistics and trending; conducting analysis of statistical data; maintaining information systems, identifying trends, performance indicators, and strategies for improvement, developing and coordinating/participating in implementation of strategies to resolve EHS issues; participating in field level investigations of incidents; completing incident investigation reports; ensuring appropriate contractor safety management and construction/maintenance health and safety guidelines are in place; and performing other related duties as required. The successful candidates, through constructive and positive interactions and continuous improvement initiatives, will enhance the culture of health and safety within the University community. Occasional use of personal vehicle will be required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience (3-5 years) in occupational health and safety, a diploma or degree with a concentration in occupational health and safety and engineering technology, or an equivalent combination of experience and training may be considered. Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) and/or Professional Technologist (P.Tech) Designations (or eligible to apply) are assets. Proficiency in process safety management would be considered an asset. The ideal candidate will also have a proven ability to make decisions; interact at all levels of the organization and across businesses; and effectively and efficiently coordinate action as part of an EHS team. Effective communication and excellent writing and public speaking skills are required.

SALARY $61,862 – 84,355 per annum (Management and Professional)
