Position Overview

To bring this vision to reality the WRHA Adult Mental Health and Addictions Services provides an integrated and comprehensive range of mental health and addictions services and supports primarily for adult residents of Winnipeg across the healthcare continuum that support and promote recovery. Through collaboration and partnership across various health, social service and community sectors the program strives to promote mental health and well-being for all, to reduce inequities and the impact of mental health and addiction problems and to work towards sustainability of mentally healthy individuals and communities.


MAIN FUNCTION: 

Reporting to the Lead, Integrated Mental Health and Addictions Services and in collaboration with the Leadership Team for the Mental Health and Addictions Service the incumbent is responsible for providing practice development expertise for the development and maintenance of a systematic and sustainable model for education. Ensures continuing competence in clinical practice, extending knowledge and skills, and increasing personal and professional effectiveness of staff in mental health and addictions services. The Program Specialist applies key knowledge and critical thinking skills related to practice development; applies skills to assess and analyze information; plans, implements and evaluates policies, programs and practice; communicates effectively; provides leadership in design, implementation and evaluation of staff learning needs assessment; and demonstrates professional responsibility and accountability.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.

Please note that an employee is not permitted to hold two or more positions across the WRHA legal entity that combine to equal more than 1.0 EFT. The WRHA legal entity includes Churchill Health Centre, Deer Lodge Centre, Grace Hospital, Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg, Pan Am Clinic, River Park Gardens, Victoria General Hospital, WRHA corporate programs, and WRHA community health services. Effective April 1, 2024, Golden West Centennial Lodge will also be part of the WRHA legal entity.
