Activity Coordinator, Summer Program

We are seeking an energetic and enthusiastic Activity Coordinator for our Summer Camps program. Reporting to the Director of External Programs, the Activity Coordinator provides safe and enjoyable on- and off-campus activities for students during the summer. Activities are a key part of the student experience, introducing them to the natural, cultural, and historical environment of Victoria and Vancouver Island. The Activity Coordinator plans, organizes, schedules and delivers weekend and evening activities.

Work Schedule:

June 3, 2024: required orientation session.

June 3 to August 9, 2024: 35 hours per week.

Responsibilities include:

• Plan and lead on- and off-campus activities in the evening and on weekends.
• Ensure all transportation is booked for activities with the Transportation Manager
• Correspond with guides and service providers to confirm arrival and departure times and participant numbers.
• Communicate the details of each activity to the administrative staff, teachers and students.
• Supervise Student Ambassadors while on activities.
• Maintain and store sports equipment.
• Plan meals for off campus trips if needed - bagged lunch, restaurant, or from the supermarket.
• Coordinate waivers that are required with the Program Coordinator.
• Plan and participate in the trip to Vancouver and Whistler.
• Communicate with staff regarding safety and risk management before each activity.
• Work alongside other management staff in ensuring the success of all parts of daily life on camp.
• Monitor student behavior during activities and inform boarding staff if there are any concerns.
• Completes incident and accident reports as needed.
• Take photos of student activities and share with the Communications Assistant.
• Attends weekly meetings with the Director and administrative team.

Experience and Qualifications:

• Completed or enrolled in relevant post-secondary education such as Business, Recreation, or Education.
• Minimum of 1 year of related experience in activity or event planning.
• Experience working with youth in a mentoring or supervisory role.
• Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
• Use sound judgement to solve problems or escalate issues as appropriate.
• Ability to be collaborative and team oriented.
• Enthusiastic, energetic, a self-starter.
• Ability to work independently, set priorities and schedule and meet deadlines with conflicting demands.
• Ability to work cooperatively and develop positive working relationships with international students.
• Demonstrated attention to detail and organization skills.
• Experience using Microsoft Office software: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
• Valid First Aid certificate.

Pay Range:

Hourly pay range: $24.69 - $29.05.

Criminal Record Check:

Must pass and maintain a clear Solicitor General criminal record check for the purpose of working with children.

SMUS Camps will deliver summer boarding camps for students aged 13-16 from July 2 to August 3, 2024.  We offer camps focusing on leadership, engineering, game development, music and sports.

Job Types: Part-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 2 months

Salary: $24.69-$29.05 per hour

Expected hours: 35 per week
