Job Description:

• Develop and implement child-care programs that support and promote the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of children
• Lead activities by telling or reading stories, teaching songs, taking children to local points of interest
• Provide opportunities to express creativity through the media of art, dramatic play, music and physical activity
• Guide and assist children in the development of self help skills
• Observe children for signs of potential learning or behavioural problems and prepare reports for parents, guardians or supervisor
• Assess the abilities, interests and needs of children and discuss progress or problems with parents and other staff members
• Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers and community service providers working with children
• Plan and maintain an environment that protects the health, security and well-being of children
• May plan and organize activities for school-age children in child-care programs before and after regular school hours
• May supervise and coordinate activities of other early childhood educators and early childhood educator assistants
• Continue education through workshops, in-house training and courses
• Assist in the daily maintenance of the Centre

Requirements:

Education: Completion of a two- to four-year college program in early childhood education or a bachelor’s degree in child development is required.

Experience:  A minimum of 2 years of experience in early education is required.

Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses: Registration with the College of Early Childhood Educators (ECE) in Ontario (Early Childhood Educator Licence) is required. Child first aid and CPR Certificate and vulnerable sector screening are required.

Salary: $20.00 per hour, 40 hours per week

Important information: The position requires working on shifts of 9 hours per day which will be scheduled anywhere from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday to Friday, including one unpaid 1-hour break. Flexibility is required since start and end times will meet classroom demands. The candidate will be responsible to work with children up to 6 years old.
