Under the direction of the Adult Outpatient Services Manager and working within an interdisciplinary mental health and addiction team, the Community Mental Health Nurse will provide a range of clinical services to adults with mental health and addiction issues and support to their families. The incumbent will also serve as an important link between Intermediate Care Services and the services provided by the Primary Health Care System.
Job Qualifications Required Qualifications
- Bachelor Degree/Diploma in Nursing or Bachelor Degree/Diploma in Psychiatric Nursing
- Registered or eligible for registration with the Registered Psychiatric Nurses Association of Saskatchewan (RPNAS) or College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS)
Experience Minimum 3 years experience in Inpatient and Mental Health and Additions services. Minimum 1 year supervisory experience
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Ability to design, initiate and conduct in service training for other professionals
- Ability to enter and retrieve data in computer database systems
- Ability to identify, implement and evaluate areas of client difficulty across a wide range of clinical presentation and formulate evidence based intervention
- Ability to implement a variety of evidence based intervention strategies (individual or group) for individuals with mental health and addiction problems.
- Ability to provide public education regarding children and youth and mental health concerns
- Ability to work in partnership within the community and possess a broad knowledge of community resources including treatment programs and support agencies
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team to manage complex and multiple demands
- Computer skills and working knowledge of current software programs.
- Interpersonal competence, including effective problem solving and conflict resolutions skills
- Knowledge and practical application of the Mental Health Services Act and Health Information Protection Act and other legislation that impacts the work of clinicians in a mental health setting
- Knowledge and skill related to community psychiatric nursing practice including, but not limited to, assessment, triage, treatment, case management and medication usage and side effects
- Knowledge of community psychiatric nursing clinical standards of practice and the ability to develop and ensure compliance of those standards related to a community mental heath setting
- Knowledge of the diversity of cultures, values and traditions and their impact on accessing mental health services
- Leadership abilities and the ability to work within a change management model
- Organizational skills
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal); Ability to document in a concise and timely manner
Other Information Additional Information The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) requires a criminal record check (CRC) from every potential SHA team member. The CRC must be dated within the past six (6) months and be satisfactory to the SHA.
