Job Summary:
Machinists set up and machine using Computer Numerical Control (CNC) and milling machines to cut metal and other materials into products with precise dimensions.
Job Responsibilities:
Your supervisor may from time to time ask you to perform other related duties not specifically included in this job description. This job's key responsibilities include:
- Program and operate 5 axis CNC performing 3D and 2D work.
- Use FCS and other fixturing systems to create a stable working holding arrangement for workpiece.
- Check the machine tool's calibration and motion accuracy.
- Working knowledge of the tools, fixtures, processes utilized in the machining departments.
- Perform all required machining checks for quality, schedule and perform maintenance and repairs to machinery.
- Accountable for machine set-up and /or operations and / or maintenance, and/or troubleshooting.
- Ability to adhere and complete work within specified timelines.
- Must be prepared to work on various shifts with and without supervision .
- Adherence to all company and operating policies, procedures, and training requirements.
- Participate in and support Continuous Improvements.
Job Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent that includes Math and English credits, and
- Min of 2-3 years of experience as machinist , working independently on 5-axis milling machines performing 3D and 2D operations.
- Experience with high tolerance, high surface finish machining, including optics machining, large component machining, and core/cavity machining in an unattended environment.
- Experience programming with WorkNC and Heidenhain controllers would be an asset.
- Quality and Precision: Machining parts at high speeds requires precision and attention to detail to meet quality standards and tolerances. High-speed machinists must carefully monitor machine performance, make adjustments as needed, and conduct quality checks to ensure parts meet specifications.
- Teamwork and Collaboration: High-speed machinists often work as part of a team, collaborating with supervisors, engineers, quality control inspectors, and other colleagues to ensure production goals are met.
- Effective communication and teamwork are essential for coordinating tasks and addressing issues as they arise.

Working Conditions:
- Plant Environment: High-speed machinists typically work in manufacturing plants or facilities equipped with various types of machinery and equipment. The plant environment can vary but often includes noise, vibrations, and exposure to dust or other particles.
- Shift Work: Many manufacturing plants operate around the clock, requiring high-speed machinists to work in shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Shift schedules may rotate periodically to ensure coverage across all hours of operation.
- Safety Protocols: Safety is a top priority in manufacturing plants, and high-speed machinists must adhere to strict safety protocols and procedures. This includes wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection, as well as following guidelines for machine operation and maintenance.
- Physical Demands: The job of a high-speed machinist can be physically demanding, requiring standing for long periods, lifting heavy materials, and performing repetitive tasks. Proper ergonomics and body mechanics are essential to prevent injuries and maintain physical health.
- Temperature and Climate Control: Depending on the type of manufacturing process and the location of the plant, high-speed machinists may be exposed to temperature fluctuations and varying climate conditions. Some plants are climate-controlled to maintain optimal working conditions.
- Production Targets: Manufacturing plants often have production targets or quotas that high-speed machinists are expected to meet. This can create pressure to work efficiently while maintaining quality standards and safety protocols.
Environmental, Health and Safety Expectations:
Employee Responsibilities:
- Work in compliance with ABC Standards, EHS Policies, Local, Regional and Federal acts, bylaws, and regulations.
- Report any spills or leaks immediately.
- Use personal protective equipment and clothing as required.
- All Employees shall follow Site Workplace Safety Guidelines.
- No Employee shall remove or make ineffective any protective device and must report missing or damaged protective devices.
- No Employee shall use or operate any equipment, machine, or device in a manner that may endanger themself or another worker, including the operation of equipment, machine, or device without proper training or certifications where required.
- No Employee shall engage in horseplay or unsafe acts.
- Employees must immediately report any hazard(s), unsafe act/condition, near miss or incident regardless of severity to their Group Leader.
- All Employees must maintain a drug and alcohol-free workplace in compliance with the substance abuse policy.
Security and Housekeeping:
- Ensure visitors and contractors follow the Contractor Management Policies / Site-specific Procedures.
- All Employees must use the designated employee entrance and exit doors. Under no circumstances can employees prop or cause to remain open any entrance or exit door that could permit entry to the facility for unauthorized individuals.
- All employees shall ensure the building is always clean and a safe workplace.
- No food or drink is permitted in the warehouse or production area, unless in a spill proof container. All other food and drink items must remain in the designated break areas.
