Position: Construction Estimator
Job type: Permanent full-time
Location: Hamilton , ON
Reporting directly to the Director of Preconstruction, the Construction Estimator is part of the estimating and sales team developing project leads, obtaining and submitting request for proposals and qualifications and proceeding with the development of accurate bids for competitive tenders on construction projects.
Some of the responsibilities of the Construction Estimator include: - Searching leads for proposal and bid opportunities
- Assist in the preparation of project prequalification with clients
- Maintain the cost estimating and subcontractor databases up to date
- Assist in the prequalification of subcontractors and suppliers
- Fully understand scope of works and evaluation risks on projects
- Perform quantity take-offs from plans and drawings
- Solicit bid prices from subcontractors and suppliers prior to closing a tender
- Prepare preliminary construction schedule prior to tender closing
- Assist the estimating team during tender closings
- Maintain excellent working relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, clients, and consultants.
Candidates should: - Hold a College or University degree in Construction or Engineering
- Have 5 years construction estimating experience in the Canadian market
- Have excellent knowledge of the local market conditions and have an established network of subcontractors and suppliers
- Have excellent understanding of the construction industry and construction management processes
- Have excellent communication skills in English (oral and written)
- Be able to read, understand and interpret plans, drawings, sketches, and contract specifications
- Have superior working knowledge of MS Office suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Have estimating experience with On-Screen Takeoff, Bluebeam, Timberline, or similar estimating software
Compensation : 75-125K dependent on experience
