Black & McDonald is currently seeking a Building Operator to join our Facilities Management & Operations team in Duncan, BC (Cowichan Valley)! The Building Operator position is located in Duncan, BC and will report directly to the Project Manager.
The Building Operator will be responsible for performing facility inspections to ensure safe operation of the buildings and grounds. They will perform preventative and corrective maintenance tasks in accordance with Provincial Health and Safety regulations and Black & McDonald best practices.. The Building Operator will be expected to put the safety of themselves, co-workers, and the public in the highest order of priority and to participate fully in our company safety program. High levels of customer service and satisfaction is expected within the role. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Plan and execute responsive and planned maintenance in accordance with contract requirements
- Assist the Project Manager to develop cost estimates for required repairs and minor works projects
- Provide access and operational support to subcontractors performing work on our behalf, verify that required work is completed and report any deficiencies with proposed remedial actions
- Monitor Building Automation System
- Schedule and co-ordinate work activities with other subcontractors
- Perform mechanical rounds and log readings
- Respond to client requests
- Ensure that work order requests and preventative and corrective maintenance tasks are prioritized and addressed in a timely manner, clearly and concisely
- Perform duties such as cleaning, painting, snow removal, HVAC adjustments, filter maintenance, minor plumbing maintenance and general building repair
- Maintain a professional demeanor at all times with the client, fellow employees and the general public who visit the facility
- Comply with all company policies and procedures
- Prepare site inspection reports

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Secondary school completion required
WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Knowledge and experience in building automated systems and HVAC systems
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in building operations
SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Must be available for on call standby duties and emergency out of hours call duties
- Punctual, presentable and respectful at all times
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Strong problem solving skills
- Ability to maintain a professional demeanor at all times with fellow employees and customers
- Basic computer skills and working knowledge of Excel, Word & Outlook
Expected compensation for this role is a starting pay range between $25-$30/hour dependent on skills and experience.
