Assistant Nutrition Manager

Job Description
Position Summary
Assists the Nutrition Manager with managing all aspects of food services, housekeeping and laundry services to meet the nutritional and care needs of the residents/tenants. Ensures effective and efficient preparation and delivery of food, housekeeping and laundry services in keeping with legislative compliance and budgetary constraints.

Qualifications and Skills Required
- Member of the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management
- Food and Nutrition Management Diploma from an approved College and/or University degree in Food Service and Nutrition
- Knowledge of Canada’s Food Guide
- Must possess a Food Handler’s Certificate
- 3 – 5 years’ experience in food services, preferably Long Term Care, with progressive leadership roles
- Proven management, leadership and coaching skills
- Experience in budgetary maintenance and reporting
- Solid understanding of Ministry of Health Compliance Reviews
- Solid customer and client relationship skills
- Excellent organizational and problem solving skills
- Superior communication skills (oral and written) to handle interactions with residents, families and staff
- Current (within 6 months) original and acceptable Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Screen
- Proficiency with computers (Microsoft Office)
- Human relations skills required to handle a variety of interactions with all stakeholders of Tabor Manor/Pleasant Manor, (i.e., Board and liaison members, families, residents/tenants, volunteers, staff, and constituents of the Mennonite community)
- Cultural sensitivity to the German Mennonite heritage
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and/or supervise the preparation and service of all meals and nourishment’s following specified menus and standardized recipes
- Assist the Nutrition Manager in controlling the operational budget for the Dietary, Housekeeping, Laundry Departments
- Assist with the purchase, receipt, storage and control of department supplies, which may include inventory controls
- Follows infection control procedures
- Ensures compliance with all Long Term Care regulations and established policies and procedures
- Assist with the recruitment, orientation, supervision and performance of staff
- Assist with training of staff on a regular basis
- Ensure Dietary, Laundry and Housekeeping staff are compliant with policies, procedures, including safety, sanitation and safe working practices
- Ensure proper usage, maintenance and supply of all department related equipment
- Maintain operational records, as required (e.g. menus, production charts, food and refrigeration temperatures)
- Assists in updating dietary records based on resident profiles, diets, diet textures, nourishments and supplements
- Assist in RAI-MDS documentation of residents
- Attend Resident Care Conferences in the absence of the Nutrition manager
- Assists with staff scheduling
- Works with Dietician and other members of the management team
- Assume the responsibilities of the Dietary and Environmental Services department in the absence of the Nutrition Manager, including carrying cellphone for 24 hr coverage
- Assumes responsibility for the operation of in the absence of the Nutrition Manager
- Carries out other tasks and duties that may be assigned by the Nutrition Manager
