Job Description
Reporting to the Senior Director, Marketing and Communications with a matrix reporting relationship to the Director of Sustainability Services for Clean Energy Improvement Program, the Marketing Advisor plays a key role in elevating awareness and client engagement for the Clean Energy Improvement Program (CEIP). This position facilitates the development and delivery of marketing and communications strategies that will drive participation in across the suite of local CEIP programs; amplify awareness of program success and strengthen engagement with key stakeholders.
Know-How
Practical/ Technical Knowledge
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Communications or directly related field.
- Marketing/communications experience in environmental science, energy efficiency, renewable energy, climate change, sustainability, or corporate social responsibility would be an asset, but is not essential.
- 3-5 years of marketing and communication experience, including both B2C and B2B, with a focus on planning, managing, and implementing integrated marketing plans.
Planning, Organizing and Integrating
- Highly skilled in using office software, customer relationship management systems and including Microsoft products (Dynamics 365, Word, Teams, Project, Visio, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint), Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign), WordPress, search engine optimization, Google Analytics, social media, & email marketing.
- Exceptional organization, planning and project management skills and an ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic, and results-oriented work environment.
- Experience managing budgets, tracking campaign results, and liaising with vendors.
Communicating and Influencing Skills
- Exceptional attention to detail and quality.
- Track record of managing & implementing marketing plans that deliver measurable results.
- Deep understanding how to define and present brand values in tangible ways.
- Ability to stay abreast of trends, risks, and innovations in energy efficiency, renewable energy and property assessed clean energy.
Responsibilities
Program Strategy
- Collaborating across Alberta Municipalities and partner municipalities to build overall marketing approach, marketing campaigns, and ensure information is proactively collected, shared, analyzed and incorporated into plans for continuous improvement. Target audiences include elected officials, municipal administrators, contractors and property owners.
- Developing and implementing systems for tracking and reporting the progress of multiple marketing and communications plans and their implementation.
- Leading the development, roll-out and measurement of marketing initiatives to build awareness and support for initiatives and building the pipeline of potential participants.
- Leveraging internal design capabilities and creative services agencies to ensure timely co-ordination/execution of deliverables.
- Working with MarComm team, in collaboration with the Sustainability Services leadership team, to plan and implement plans for future growth and direction.
- Leading the development and management of the CEIP website (and when required, the MCCAC website) and its optimization for search results.
- Contributing customer journey advice on the development and management of web application portals.
- Ensuring that all brand communication elements are consistent and accurate, and are reflective of the current brand strategy, plan and communication objectives.
- Developing key measurement tools and processes to assess the impact of brand and promotional marketing campaigns and provide regularly scheduled updates to key multiple stakeholders, both within and outside the organization.
- Reviewing project materials to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
- Monitoring, measuring, and reporting program metrics.
- Marketing & communications planning and operational planning,
- Developing and supporting the implementation of an annual overarching marketing, communication, and engagement plan for CEIP. Developing an annual CEIP marketing budget and forecast budget spend (for CEIP overall, and individual municipal CEIP programs). Tracking and reporting on budget monthly.
- Managing relationships with subject matter experts, planning and hosting meetings with municipal MarComm contacts, presenting marketing materials, running ad campaigns, and managing customer feedback surveys.
- Maintaining relationships with trade associations, non-profit organizations, past program participants, etc. as distribution networks for program information.
Program Implementation
- Executing the marketing/communications strategy for CEIP using digital campaigns, email/newsletter re-targeting campaigns, print media, stakeholder engagement, and other tools.
- Developing key messaging, profile of key audiences, collateral/creative materials, case studies, educational materials and initiatives leveraging technical program content from program staff.
- Developing and implementing an education and awareness plan for CEIP property owners and contractors.
- Working with Alberta Municipalities marketing and communications team on issues management and media inquiries.
- Managing contracts and invoices with marketing and communication vendors; tracking spending (including inputting marketing costs in tracking sheets) and providing regular updates to the Director of Sustainability Services.
- Leading event planning for engagement and recruitment activities (e.g., co-ordinating software platforms, managing event invitations, tracking/reporting on attendance) and developing tactics to boost attendance.
- Drafting marketing and communication materials for internal and external reports (e.g., quarterly reports to executives, CEIP annual public report, CEIP operational plan, MCCAC impact report, etc.).
- As needed, liaising with creative services agencies to ensure timely co-ordination/execution of deliverables.
- Ensuring that all brand communication elements are consistent and accurate, and are reflective of the current brand strategy, plan and communication objectives.
- Developing key measurement tools and processes to assess the impact of brand and promotional campaigns and provide quarterly updates to key stakeholders.
- Overseeing CEIP webpages, social media channels and newsletters.
- Quarterly tracking and reporting on key performance indicators (KPI) and adjusting marketing strategies based on KPI performance.
- Overseeing planning and coordination of education and outreach activities, including events, workshops, webinars and facilitating engagement.
- Developing and maintaining surveys to collect feedback on marketing and communications products.
- Ensuring challenges and opportunities are identified, assessed, and made known to the Senior Director, Marketing and Communications and Director of Sustainability Services.
