Summer Student Labourer - Parks and Recreation

Job description
DEFINITION:
Under the direction of a Working Foreman, a student classification as defined by the Collective Agreement, who performs various manual labour tasks and operates small hand and power tools.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:
- Perform manual labour including, but not limited to, shovel, rake and pick work, grass and brush clearing, public refuse collection etc.;
- Assist other employees with their duties including, but not limited to, gardening, janitorial duties, etc.;
- Operate power tools and equipment including, but not limited to, lawn mower, weedeater, and other hand tools;
- Drive light vehicles, as required;
- Inspect equipment daily for visible damage, for fluid and fuel requirements, electrical systems, tire checks, etc., and report any defects to Working Foreman;
- Shift work may be required;
- Other duties, as required.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- Completion of 1 year of full time post-secondary education, continuing studies on a full time basis in September
- Ability to operate related equipment;
- Good physical condition and able to perform heavy manual labour;
- Ability to work independently and to accomplish tasks and assignments;
- Ability to deal effectively with co-workers and the public;
- Valid Class 5 B.C. Driver's Licence.
- First Aid training is considered an asset;
