About the opportunity
The Account Manager manages all aspects of the business relationship with several customers of varying sizes and complexities with the objective of delivering sales and new business development for Ingredients and Export in accordance with the business plan. The position is accountable for establishing Lactalis Canada as the preferred supplier of dairy ingredients.
The attributes we are looking for
- Manage all aspects of the sale of dairy ingredients to assigned customers to deliver volume growth and profit objectives, which includes determining customer product needs, obtaining product approval, negotiating pricing, developing contacts, obtaining and communicating forecasted volume requirements, and conducting business reviews.
- Develop new Lactalis business with the assigned accounts at both the customer’s purchasing and R & D levels by ascertaining customer’s ingredients needs and proposing solutions from the product portfolio. Liaise and work closely with Lactalis technical teams on all aspects of product development of ingredients to meet the customer needs, such as, functionality, shelf-life, technical documentation, packaging, and quality/food safety criteria.
- Ensure customer day-to-day needs are met by managing and coordinating efforts of all other functional areas (Customer Service, Operations, Credit, Logistics), including the resolution of non-routine customer service issues such as quality and delivery.
- Develop new Lactalis Canada business with new clients through prospecting, making cold calls, developing relationships at both purchasing and R & D levels, ascertaining customer’s ingredients needs and proposing solutions with Lactalis or imported trade quota products. Follow through to establish actual sales including customer set up, volume forecast, technical documentation and ongoing support.
- Ensure Lactalis Canada’s position as the leader in dairy ingredients through promoting product line at trade events and seeking opportunities to present technical product information to the customers.
- Provide back-up support to the Director - Sales & Trade Development for domestic, import and export business and adhoc duties as assigned.
What you will bring
- Professional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, in English and French (mandatory).
- University degree or college diploma in Business or Food Science or a related discipline.
- Three years’ experience managing food service or manufacturing accounts, dairy trading or in related fields relevant to this position.
- Expertise and knowledge of the Food industry with some understanding of dairy ingredients.
- Experience managing relationships at multiple levels, internally and externally
- Solid business sense and acumen to balance customer needs with Lactalis Canada’s business focus.
- Ability to perceive and interpret the customers’ requirements/demands and penetrate customer beyond immediate contact to build relationships.
- Adaptability to manage multiple priorities and successfully navigate a shifting commercial environment.
- Strong analytical, planning, presentation, and problem solving skills.
- Ability to think strategically and with depth of comprehension.
- Ability to work effectively within a small team environment requiring open sharing of information.
- Competent at completing tasks thoroughly with minimal supervision.
- Proficient with standard office computer technology such as MS Office as well as working knowledge of SAP and BW.
- Basic understanding of food composition, nutrition, and manufacturing.
- Knowledge of Canadian milk system and global dairy market an asset.
- Valid driver’s licence.
