Labour Market Supplement

A recruitment and retention supplement will be offered to front line Nurse, Nurse Practitioner and Midwifery positions within the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority. The successful incumbent will receive a $5000 supplement upon hire and an additional $5000 supplement after completion of 12 months of continuous employment contingent on remaining employed in an eligible position for a further 12 months. This is a taxable benefit and will be subject to applicable deductions

Job Information

As the Home Care Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), your scope of practice is similar to a Registered Nurse with the exceptions of administration of narcotics and the Home Intravenous Therapy Program. Your experience is beyond the scope of a graduate LPN; working independently, this expanded role demands independent thinking, judgment and critical decision-making skills for the delivery and management of nursing care for clients. You will be assigned to the following:
• Wound Care
• Palliative Care
• Chronic Care
• Foot Care

You will be making 6-8 home visits a day and coordinate the care of 15-25 clients concurrently. You will need to have the experience, skills, knowledge and confidence to deliver comprehensive nursing services, including palliative care in the home setting, working with the professional care team, the family caregivers and family dynamics. You will be part of an inter-disciplinary team and will communicate with a wide variety of health and social service providers within NTHSSA-Yellowknife Region and other regions, pharmacies, community organizations, southern acute and rehabilitation units, and the general public.

You will support foot care clients and will spend 2 days per week performing foot care duties. You will participate in the development of the foot care program; provide input into policies and procedures for the foot care program; develop and deliver a teaching package to teach basic foot care to Home Support Workers.

To be considered for this role you would need to have a completed a Licensed Practical Nursing Certificate and have at least 2 years of recent acute care LPN nursing experience in a medical, surgical, home care or community health environment.
