Duties

The successful candidate will be required to translate various texts primarily from Russian into English and occasionally from French into English. The candidate will be asked to translate texts in various fields, in particular scientific and technical fields.*

Because of the sensitivity of the texts to be translated, the candidate will be required to work on site in the National Capital Region.

Work environment

!
Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) helps the Government of Canada serve Canadians. With a strong focus on quality client service, we provide innovative common services such as real property and building management, purchasing, banking, pay and pensions, and translation to other government departments, agencies and Crown corporations. By providing these centralized services to departments and agencies, we enable them to focus on what they do best: providing their programs and services to Canadians.

At PSPC, our approach to inclusion is simple: we are committed to achieving a competent and representative workforce that reflects the diversity of the Canadian population we serve, and we strive to create a welcoming, respectful and inclusive environment that enables collaboration and innovation. When you succeed, we all succeed.

We therefore encourage you to indicate if you belong to one of the designated groups.
Information about Employment Equity

Translation Bureau
Founded in 1934, the Translation Bureau is a special operating agency of Public Services and Procurement Canada. It supports the Government of Canada in its efforts to communicate with and serve Canadians in both official languages. It also plays a leadership role in standardizing the vocabulary used in the various spheres of federal government and parliamentary activity.

The Translation Bureau aims to be a centre of excellence in language services. The foundation of its modernized vision rests on several initiatives, including strengthening employee well-being; improving service quality; reaching out to professional associations, universities and clients; planning and managing resources effectively; and conducting research and development in machine translation and artificial intelligence.

Positions offered at the Translation Bureau can be attached to any of our offices across Canada: Vancouver, Winnipeg, Toronto, Ottawa, Gatineau, Montréal, Québec, Moncton or Halifax. Telework is subject to the manager’s approval. Note, however, that teleworkers may be required to work in the office from time to time, depending on operational requirements.

However, as noted above, since the texts to be translated are of a sensitive nature, the candidate selected for the position to be staffed through this process will have to work on site, in the National Capital Region.

A supplement of 4% may be granted to multilingual translators who regularly work in at least three languages. Where applicable, this supplement will be added to the translators’ compensation.

Intent of the process

This process will be used to create a pool of fully or partially qualified candidates to staff identical or similar positions within the Translation Bureau with a variety of security requirements and durations (indeterminate, term).
