Youth Day Camp and Special Events Program Leader

Job description

DEFINITION:

Under the direction of the Programs Supervisor, or his/her delegate, coordinates the City of Terrace youth programming opportunities, such as Summer Day Camp program, Little Olympians and other special events typically held during the spring and summer season. As part of the Parks, Recreation & Culture Department, you'll be working in a fast-paced, creative environment focused on delivering interactive and educational programs for kids and youth to develop their skills. The City of Terrace is committed to ensuring that every child in our programs has a positive recreation experience. Day Camps and special events are offered in a variety of facilities including the sportsplex, outdoor spaces such as playground and the Terrace and District Aquatic Center.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

  1. Plan, organize, implement and supervise all activities of the Summer Day Camp program and other youth-oriented programming/special events as outlined by the Programs Supervisor;
  2. Supervise and ensure the safety of youth in attendance of City programming;
  3. Plan, organize, implement and lead all activities, including swimming, hiking, outdoor excursions;
  4. Plan, organize, and lead sports-based programming;
  5. Build positive rapport with youth and their families;
  6. Establish and maintain open communication with parents/caregivers, co-workers and supervisors;
  7. Complete detailed daily and weekly reports, as well as incident/accident reports as required;
  8. Work with the Programs Supervisor to provide ongoing publicity and promotion for the programming;
  9. Provide ongoing evaluation, improvement and feedback on the programs.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. A post-secondary student who will be returning to college/university in the Fall;
  2. Preferred post-secondary training in Recreation, Education, Social Work or a related field;
  3. Current Emergency First Aid and CPR C (or willing to be obtained) ;
  4. Experience working with children;
  5. Athletic background, such as experience playing teams sports in school, considered an asset;
  6. Coaching experience in any activity or sport considered an asset;
  7. Bronze Medallion or Bronze Cross considered an asset;
  8. Training in Trauma informed practice considered an asset. .
  9. Valid Class 5 Driver's license (valid Class 4 Driver's license would be an asset);

A criminal record check will be required to be provided by all potential successful applicants to this position prior to it being awarded.
