POSITION OVERVIEW:

This exciting position is a critical role to the Company as it supports all regions and distribution channels managing complex claims both in Canada and internationally either through direct handling or co-examining. The types of losses may include, but are not limited to, large complex claims involving commercial and personal property, equipment breakdown, renewable and non-renewable energy and construction projects.

The successful candidate will be a technical expert in handling complex property claims and will also participate in regional file reviews, coverage committees and large loss committees. As the subject matter expert, you will have the opportunity to share information and knowledge with peers, regional file handlers, actuary, finance, underwriting and senior leadership.

WHAT YOU WILL ACHIEVE IN THIS ROLE

•Manage, investigate, analyze, negotiate and resolve large and complex property claims, generally with exposures over $500k or involving a specialized kind of loss.
•Where appropriate, engage and manage consultants, independent adjusters, accounts and engineers to confirm coverage, determine liability, and assess damages
•Although you’ll generally work typical office hours, a flexible approach to work is required as you may need to and where appropriate, attend loss scenes with clients and key stakeholders, develop mitigation strategy and project plan, coordinate tasks and establish early reserve estimates, all while identifying coverage opportunities to assist the policyholder
• Lead, supervise, guide and provide technical advice to regional file handlers to ensure consistent and effective claims handling
•Audit regional claims files and report to management on results
•Train regional claims staff on claims handling procedures, policies and techniques
•Work with underwriting and loss prevention to identify potential risks, hazards and trends
•Deliver and exceed on all key performance indicators related to loss development and loss adjustment expenses, claims leakage control and expense management
•Leverage your expertise in a creative, continuous improvement environment to support a model of best practice operations
•As part of our Customer Obsessed culture, you will exemplify our brand expectations by keeping your commitments and responding to policyholder and broker inquiries
•As part of the national Head Office team, you will be an active contributor to national team meetings, projects and goals and develop the ability to work effectively with team members located across Canada.
•Completion of monthly open & closed file reviews
•Provide monthly progress reports and updates

Who you are

•Technical expertise acquired through a minimum of 15 years of direct handling of complex property claims, including energy, construction and equipment breakdown
•Extensive experience in handling business interruption and other time element claims
•Strong negotiation, project management and problem solving skills
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills
•Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
•Undergraduate degree
•CIP designation
