Description
The Janitor maintains the cleanliness and safety of the facility, property, and grounds that The Salvation Army Connection Point Church and Resource Centre Leases from the landlord in compliance with applicable standards.
HOURS:
- Sunday-Friday 9:00 am-11:00 am (12hrs a week)
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Represent The Salvation Army in a positive, professional manner.
- Perform regular cleaning duties in and around the property, to maintain a high quality of cleanliness and appearance.
- Work in compliance with Health and Safety Regulations and abide by the Salvation Army’s Health and Safety policies and procedures.
- Sanitize high-traffic areas regularly.
- Empty all garbage receptacles, and take garbage and recycling out to designated areas as needed.
- Maintain the outdoor property. Duties include keeping sidewalks clear of snow and ice, cleaning the main floor outside windows, picking up litter, sweeping sidewalks, etc.
- Maintain working knowledge and application of WHMIS and safe work procedures for all jobs and chemicals.
- Report any damage to property or equipment promptly to the Corps Officer/Community Ministry Director
- Report safety concerns and repair issues to the Corps Officer immediately upon discovery.
- Request janitorial supplies to be purchased as needed.
- Perform other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Certifications:
- Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent
- Valid WHIMIS training or willingness to complete training
Experience:
- A minimum of 1 year prior related experience, including general familiarity with cleaning and maintenance procedures.
Required Skills/Knowledge:
- Demonstrate janitorial, housekeeping and maintenance skills at a professional level.
- Demonstrate both respect and an understanding of The Salvation Army - its mission, culture, and values
- Must be able to handle the physical demands of the position, which include moving, lifting, bending, standing or walking and pushing, pulling, or carrying heavy objects
- Ability to operate cleaning equipment and tools.
- Must have the ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Must have working knowledge of grounds maintenance (mowing, raking, watering, etc.)
PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:
- Self-motivated and disciplined, able to work with minimal supervision
- Strong organizational/time management skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- First Aid certification preferred
- Ability to perform minor repairs an asset
- Willingness to participate in Health and Safety Training as well as other professional development and training as required.
