The Opportunity The Parents Legal Centre (PLC) takes a holistic approach to family and child protection law. As the Staff Lawyer at the Parents Legal Centre (PLC), you will be part of a team consisting of a managing lawyer, staff lawyer(s), paralegal/advocate(s) and administrative legal assistant(s). Together, you will work to provide advice and representation to PLC clients on family and child protection matters and strive to reach early collaborative resolutions when appropriate. We believe that better outcomes can be achieved when parents receive legal advice and support during the early stages of their family and child protection matters.

Reporting to the Managing Lawyer or Excluded Manager, this position works within the context of Legal Aid BC policies and is responsible for providing legal counsel and representation, including duty counsel, in the full range of family law practice including separation, divorce, custody/access, property division and child protection matters. This position works collaboratively with community advocates in developing legal services, programs and law reform.

The paralegal/advocate helps resolve a parent’s underlying non-legal issues, and the administrative assistant oversees client intake and office administration.
