Job description
We are looking for a permanent, full-time Access to Information (ATI) Specialist to join our growing Access to Information Solutions (ATIS) team at PrivacyWorks Consulting. What You'll Do
Reporting to the ATI Manager, the ATI Specialist will work directly with our clients and other members of the ATIS team to process access requests – i.e. Freedom of Information (FOI) and Access to Information (ATIP) – on behalf of various public-sector organizations; provide expert advice and disclosure recommendations; develop access policies, resources and programs; deliver training and otherwise support our clients to fulfil their legislated duties to give the public access to government records and information. Responsibilities may include:
- Conduct thorough, line-by-line reviews of a wide variety of personal and general records, and provide detailed redaction and disclosure recommendations to our public-body clients in compliance with applicable legislation.
- Identify and facilitate additional actions associated with ATI request processing such as consultations with other public bodies, businesses and third parties; fee estimates, waivers and payment; time extensions; full or partial transfers to other Public bodies; etc.
- Liaise with client executives, operational and support staff to ensure responsive records are collected, harms and other disclosure considerations are identified, final recommendations are approved and responses are issued in compliance with applicable legislation.
- Handle, produce and manage sensitive records and information with the utmost care and attention to confidentiality, security and compliance with corporate records management standards.
- Assist with developing and delivering customized ATI training programs, policies, processes and program reviews.
Requirements
- You have a diploma / degree in Information Management, Public Administration or a related discipline.
- You have at least three years of experience working directly with Freedom of Information / Access to Information legislation in a Canadian jurisdiction, preferably including direct experience with processing access requests.
- You have a keen analytical mind and demonstrate exceptional attention to detail.
- You're self-motivated and driven to deliver exceptional results, both independently and as part of a team.
- You have a demonstrated ability to manage caseloads with multiple competing priorities and deadlines.
- You are highly organized and diligent with managing operational and transitory records according to sound records management principles.
- You're curious, always up for a good challenge and open to thinking outside the box to find creative solutions.
- You're quick to learn new technology and have plenty of experience working with common public sector software such as Microsoft Office 365, Adobe Pro, CRM/case management apps, etc.
- You're a strong communicator and writer.
