Job Summary:
The Human Resources department at UFV invites applications for the permanent, full-time Manager, Compensation & Systems (Manager) role.
Reporting to the Director, Total Compensation & Systems, the Manager provides leadership and direction to the Compensation & Advisory team. The position manages day-to-day development and delivery of services related to employment contracts, benefit administration, and records maintenance. The Manager takes a lead role in the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of a total compensation strategy that supports the institutional mission and goals.
As a member of the excluded management team, the Manager plays an important leadership role in the development and implementation of HR initiatives within the University. The position acts as the management representative co-chair of the Joint Classification and Audit Committee (JCAC) and oversees the job evaluation classification processes for all support staff positions.
The Manager:
- Provides analysis and advice to departmental planning in the development and delivery of the services related to employment contracts, benefits administration, employee transactions, and records maintenance.
- Supervises the Compensation & Benefits Advisory team, including training, developing, coaching, mentoring, and performance management.
- Leads administration of employee transactions and related records maintenance carried out by the Compensation & Benefits Advisory team. Oversees
- information updates in HRIS and other records to accurately reflect employee status related to compensation, benefits, and other employment information.
- Ensures compliance with legislative requirements and university policies.
- Oversees the administration of the College Pension Plan and Municipal Pension Plan and acts as liaison with Pension Corporation on complex cases and policy issues. Manages communications regarding changes in the pension plans and ensures the effective management of pension rules and meeting regulatory compliance requirements.
- Oversees the job classification processes for all support staff positions by co-chairing (JCAC) as the management representative. This includes the review and assignment of salary of all new positions and applications for reclassifications for all support staff positions.
- Supports the Director in the development of employment agreements, salary administration, grid placement, and reclassifications for exempt staff.
- Assesses and leads process improvement initiatives across the team to deliver efficiencies and benefits to internal and external customers.
- Collaborates with Manager, HRIS & Analytics on institutional reporting requirements, HRIS projects and maintenance, providing input on all aspects of employee transaction processing and records maintenance.
- Develops and delivers education and training materials to faculty, staff, and administration on a variety of topics including, but not limited to, employment contracts, calculations and determination of faculty workloads based on collective agreement language.
- Supports and engages in Human Resource team initiatives, projects, and meetings; develops policies and procedures related to departmental and organizational goals and objectives.
- Participates in the completion and analysis of relevant compensation market surveys. Advances the goals of UFV’s Integrated Strategic Plan and UFV’s commitments to equity, diversity, inclusion, and Indigenization, within the Compensation & Benefits team.
- Builds and maintains collaborative partnerships within and beyond the Human Resources Department.
- Works collaboratively with academic and administrative leaders, providing expertise on compensation and benefit administration for employee recruitment and retention success.
- Communicates in a respectful and professional manner with all members of the team, department, University community and external partners. Collaborates effectively as a team member, including sharing information, cross training, and interpersonal cooperation.
- Demonstrates respect for all members of the UFV community and proactively works to create an environment of inclusivity and accessibility.
- Engages in learning and activities related to actioning indigenization and understanding the impact of colonialism and the purpose of reconciliation.
- Participates in committees and project teams as required. Undertakes related duties as assigned, consistent with the job grade of the position.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, or a related field.
- CPHR designation is preferred.
- Certified Compensation Professional (CPP) or Certified Employee Benefits (CEBS) designation is considered an asset.
- Minimum five (5) years of compensation and benefits administration experience overseeing a large, comprehensive total compensation program in a union environment.
- Minimum two (2) years of supervisory experience. Consideration will be given to candidates with an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Proven ability to lead change in a fast-paced work environment, manage competing demands and delays or unexpected events, keeping constant sight of the overall objectives.
- Demonstrated knowledge of statutory and insured benefit plans, as well as provincial pension plans.
- Strong financial, analytical, and problem-solving skills and the ability to identify and recommend creative solutions.
- Proven ability to be flexible, manage tight deadline, stress, and the ability to multi-task.
- Solid project management and planning skills, with ability to organize resources, establish priorities and implement effective systems and procedures.
- Proven ability to handle confidential information and make sound decisions within the limits of established policies and procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive, effective working relationships in a team environment.
- Advanced proficiency with standard office systems and applications, including advanced working knowledge of HRIS or similar complex databases.
