WSP is currently seeking an Environmental Field Technician to join our Earth & Environment team, located at our Ottawa office. Reporting to the Team Lead, this position will be responsible for supporting field and technical work primarily related to landfill monitoring and hydrogeologic studies.

What you'll do in a day:
- Conduct technical work related to Environmental Engineering/Geosciences on projects undertaken by WSP. Projects may relate to: landfill monitoring, hydrogeologic studies, phase I, II, and III environmental site assessments, geotechnical investigations, or others;
- Conduct monitoring activities to determine groundwater, surface water, and gas conditions. Monitoring activities may include: collecting water samples for laboratory chemical analysis, field testing (pH, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, etc.), surface water flow measurements, landfill gas measurements, drilling and monitoring well installation supervision, detailed soil and rock descriptions, detailed drilling records, slug testing, well yield testing, construction inspection and quality assurance, etc. Field programs are completed year-round and, as such, the candidate must be comfortable working in all weather conditions;
- Work closely with senior staff members to develop technical skills;
- Responsible for: adhering to health and safety requirements; environmental data procurement, collation, and management; construction inspection and documentation; technical accuracy of projects; and timely completion of projects within the budgetary requirements;
- Planning and coordination of field work and conducting water monitoring programs using a variety of techniques;
- Coordination for the completion of project maps, borehole/well logs and summary analytical tables; and,
- Other duties, as assigned.
What you'll bring to WSP:
- Environmental Technician/Technology diploma or equivalent, or a related discipline or similar program;
- 0 to 2 years of environmental consulting experience;
- Groundwater and soil sampling experience, including drilling and monitoring well installation oversight would be an asset;
- Data management and analytical and statistical analyses experience using MS Excel and database queries;
- A keen attention to detail;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to schedule multiple tasks within set deadlines;
- Self-motivated and able to work both independently and in a team environment;
- A strong foundation of Health & Safety practices;
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office products, with specific competencies in Excel and Word;
- Active enjoyment of outdoors, in all seasons and weather; and,
- A valid Class “G” Driver’s License.
