Canadian Tax Manager (Public Accounting)
Position Overview: We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Canadian Tax Manager to join our dynamic team at a medium-sized firm located in North York, Ontario. The Tax Manager will play a pivotal role in managing tax compliance and conducting research to support our diverse client base, which includes real estate companies, investment holding firms, high net worth individuals, and more. Reporting directly to a partner, this position offers the opportunity to contribute to both compliance and strategic tax planning initiatives.
Responsibilities: 1. Tax Compliance: - Oversee the preparation and review of corporate tax returns for various clients, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to relevant tax laws and regulations.
- Manage and monitor deadlines for tax filings, extensions, and other compliance-related matters.
- Collaborate with internal teams to gather necessary financial and operational data for accurate tax reporting.
- Address inquiries and audits from tax authorities, providing necessary documentation and explanations.
2. Tax Research and Planning: - Conduct tax research to stay current with evolving tax laws, regulations, and industry trends.
- Analyze and interpret tax issues, providing insightful recommendations to clients and internal stakeholders.
- Develop and implement tax planning strategies to optimize clients' tax positions while ensuring compliance.
- Assist with tax-efficient structuring and reorganization of client entities, considering both short-term and long-term objectives.
3. Client Relationship Management: - Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, understanding their unique business and financial needs.
- Act as a trusted advisor, providing expert guidance on tax matters and assisting with any questions or concerns.
- Collaborate with partners and other team members to identify new opportunities for service expansion within existing client accounts.
4. Team Collaboration: - Share knowledge and provide guidance to junior team members, fostering a collaborative learning environment.
5. Professional Development: - Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant tax laws, regulations, and industry best practices.
- Pursue continuous professional development through seminars, workshops, and industry networking.
Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA designation preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of progressive tax experience, including substantial experience in corporate tax compliance and planning.
- Strong understanding of Canadian tax laws, regulations, and guidelines.
- Previous experience with real estate, investment holding companies, and high net worth clients is a plus.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to research complex tax issues.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain client relationships.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills to manage multiple client engagements and deadlines.
- Proficiency in tax software and Microsoft Office suite.
- Strong leadership qualities and the ability to work independently and within a team environment.
