The Opportunity: The Chief Engineer is responsible for the management, development and efficient operation of the Engineering employees

• Maintain positive MLF image.
• Daily payroll, schedule vacations, prepare work schedules and daily work assignments.
• Ensure engineers follow the Operating Engineers Act and deal with Government inspectors.
• Monitor boiler water testing and WW testing and give instruction for necessary changes.
• Read and interpret log books daily, read multiple log sheets daily.
• Where required, update and manage cost saving spreadsheets.
• Track utility consumptions and keep up to date spread sheets.
• Prepare required Conservation reports, N.P.R.I. inventories and spill reports.
• Monitor daily WWTP Report for the City of Lethbridge.
• Order required parts and supplies, monitor and maintain department parts stock levels.
• Maintain and monitor outside service contracts.
• Schedule work for engineers, with maintenance and outside services.
• Maintain records of all types.
• Track PM’s and work orders and ensure completion.
• Schedule and coordinate projects, schedule plant inspections.
• Deal with the various contractors as services are required.
• Give direction and lead ongoing jobs.
• Instruct and oversee workforce and inspect the actual work done.
• Inspect plant equipment, house keeping duties, and team progress in general.
• Enforce HACCP and CFIA regulations and plant GMP’s.
• Enforce safe work practices and Company policy.
• Plan and hold safety and policy meetings, investigate accidents and incidents.
• Collect statements and do investigations regarding disciplinary issues.
• Answer phone calls and emails daily about operations and other various things.
• Meet with sales and technical people on a regular basis.
• Continuously strive for top performance from staff and equipment.
• Help solve various plant and production problems.
• Research new data and equipment.
• Organize and schedule training for staff.

What You’ll Bring:

• At least a 3rd Class Power Engineering Designation.
• At least ten years working experience in a powerhouse function.
• At least five years experience in a direct supervisory role.
• Working knowledge of ammonia plant operations including powerhouse support.
• Working knowledge of MS Office and Excel
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• The ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• The ability to live and teach our Maple Leaf leadership values.
