We are recruiting for two contract Registered Nurses at Miramichi Lodge. We have a contract for 8 months with 37.5 hours bi-weekly and an 18-month contract, also offering 37.5 hours bi-weekly. Schedules are to be determined, flexibility for days, evenings and nights is required.
Reporting to the Director of Care, the Registered Nurse provides resident-focused care, within an interdisciplinary team consistent with the mission and philosophy of care at Miramichi Lodge. This role is required to perform duties in accordance with the standards of nursing practice, College of Nurses of Ontario, and long-term care legislation.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborates with team members to provide care for all residents assisting with regular assessments of resident needs through development, update, and evaluation of resident care plans.
- Participates in all aspects of resident care to ensure the physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs of each resident/family is met, while continually ensuring the safety of residents.
- Utilizes therapeutic communication by establishing a working relationship with resident/families and co-workers for the purpose of meeting the resident needs ensuring respect, dignity, individuality of each resident.
- Supports positive team building by collaborating with co-workers and using effective communication skills to promote positive working relationship and active problem solving with the care team.
- As a team leader, functions as a liaison between all members of the care team.
- Delivers and directs care that reflects the promotion of resident or family choice and acknowledges the resident strengths, limitations; as well the need for safety and the safety of other resident or family and staff.
- Completes all tasks related to the safe and accurate administration and delivery of medications and treatments to residents while maintaining complete and accurate applicable documentation.
- Collaborates as needed with physicians, the pharmacist, and the nurse pactitioner regarding resident medication profile and perform other medication related duties.
- Initiates in a timely manner appropriate investigation around any unusual event, reports it to the Registered Nursing Supervisor.
- Completes necessary documentation and follows through nursing process.
- Ensures thorough, accurate documentation of resident care outcomes in a timely manner which reflects care given and resident/family response.
- Obtains appropriate professional development to ensure skills, abilities and leadership in long-term care are reflective of best practice standards.
- Participates in continuous quality improvement of care.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- A registered nurse with a current certificate of competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Post-registered nurse education in gerontology or related field is preferred
- Experience in geriatrics is preferred
- Ability to supervise with a team approach
- Willing and able to work shift work during a 7-day-a-week operation
- Physically able to perform assigned duties
- Proven leadership abilities combined with excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
- Computer literacy is preferred
- Ability to meet and maintain health requirement standards of Miramichi Lodge, as per long-term care legislation
- Current CPR certification
- WHIMIS certification is an asset
