Description The
Building Mechanical Estimator plays a crucial role in evaluating costs and preparing accurate estimates for projects involving heating, ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing and other mechanical elements of residential, multi-residential, commercial, institutional and/or industrial buildings. This professional analyzes project plans and specifications, estimates material and labor costs, and prepares detailed proposals for potential clients.
Responsibilities •Review architectural plans and technical specifications to understand building mechanical requirements and identify necessary components.
•Analyze and fully understand tender documents (public projects).
•Estimate costs associated with building mechanical work accurately, including materials, labor, equipment, and overhead.
•Determine quantities of materials needed, such as plumbing, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, based on project specifications.
•Obtain quotes and prices from suppliers for building mechanical materials, comparing offers to select the most cost-effective options.
•Use specialized software to prepare detailed estimates, integrating material, labor, and equipment costs, as well as overhead and profit margins.
•Prepare and present estimation proposals to potential clients, explaining cost details and addressing their questions and concerns.
•Review and update estimates in case of modifications in project plans or changes in market conditions.
•Work closely with engineers, architects, and other project team members to ensure that estimates meet project needs and budget goals.
Requirements •Degree in mechanical engineering, building mechanical technology or a related field, an asset.
•Experience in project estimation, preferably in the building mechanical field, is an asset.
•Proficiency in cost estimation software.
•In-depth knowledge of building mechanical materials and systems, including plumbing, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning.
•Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret mechanical plans and technical specifications.
•Familiarity with computer-aided design software, such as AutoCAD, is an asset.
•Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite.
•Excellent communication and negotiation skills to interact with clients, suppliers, and project team members.
•Ability to work under pressure and meet strict project deadlines.
•Attention to detail and precision in estimation work to ensure the accuracy of projected costs.
•Organizational skills and ability to manage priorities.
