Job description
We’re looking for some good people to join our team this summer!
Want to make a lasting (good) impression on the lives of some kids this summer? This is a 35 hr/wk Monday-Friday position lasting from July 8 – August 16, 2024. You’ll be working, in a team environment, with a small number of kids each week providing a safe, exciting and fun Day Camp experience.
Day Camp Counsellor
What you’ll do:
With the help of one or two youth Leaders-in-Training (LiTs), you’ll be helping a small group of kids to feel safe and secure while encouraging them to enjoy and fully participate in our Day Camp program and activities. And/Or, you may be asked (or you may choose) to work as an auxiliary counsellor with campers who have special needs in a 1-to-1 relationship, or helping with camp-wide events and activities. As a counsellor, you’ll model engagement, enthusiasm, cooperation and relationship. You’ll also:
- Help to lead an elective activity offered each week which campers will have pre-selected.
- Supervise and coordinate the efforts of one or two LiTs assigned to your group each week.
- Participate in training, debriefs and counsellor meetings to help the camp team forge a positive and energetic environment for the whole group.
- Follow the lead of the Senior and Associate Day Camp Directors and support them by doing what they ask you to do.
What you’ll bring:
- Your faith. We’re a Christian camp so we’re eager to model the same love and behaviours that Jesus showed for everyone – so it helps if that’s really important to you too.
- Some previous experience working with kids, preferable in a camp context. Huge bonus!
- Leadership experience!
- Your commitment to be ready, available and willing to work the full term of the contract (includes two weeks of training before camp starts).
- Flexibility and adaptability – this is a team effort and we really want you to be able to go with the flow and follow the leader(s).
- Creativity and enthusiasm. Kids LOVE to have fun, and so do we. You’ll keep them safe while helping deliver a program that gives them real joy.
- Some respect for parents because you’ll be interacting with them during drop-off and pick-up every day. They’ll want to get to know they can trust you!
