Job Status: Full-time, permanent

Compensation: $60,000-$75,000 annually plus comprehensive benefits package

SUMMARY

As part of the team at the Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack (DWF), the Associate, Indigenous Initiatives & Research will support DWF’s mission by providing insight and cultural strength to DWF’s programming, tools, and resources. This role will ensure DWF’s programs, including educational resources for partners, are research-based, relevant, and continuously improving.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Support the development of reconciliation-based education and training programming for DWF partners.
• Support the development of internal cultural competency training sessions including sourcing First Nations, Inuit, and Métis speakers, managing honoraria, and coordinating logistics.
• Act as main point of contact for guest speakers for internal cultural competency training sessions.
• Conduct research related to Indigenous cultures, histories, and current issues to support DWF’s overall mission (including for external communications and cultural competency-related initiatives).
• Support the A Day to Listen initiative by collaborating to select relevant speakers, developing interview notes, and coordinating logistics for guest speakers.
• Maintain relationships with A Day to Listen speakers to ensure their ongoing engagement with DWF.
• Maintain awareness of current Indigenous events and activities as they relate to reconciliation and Indigenous education.
• Review the content of Legacy Schools and Legacy Spaces toolkits to ensure they are properly vetted, culturally informed, and in line with the mission and vision of DWF.
• Review and contribute to the content and programming supports for Legacy Schools and Legacy Space.
• Provide relevant data to DWF team members when requested for annual reports, proposals, grant writing and other initiatives as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Post-secondary diploma/degree in education, Indigenous studies, communications, research, or equivalent education and experience.
• Two or more years experience in a similar role.
• Demonstrated understanding and experience working with educators, corporate partners, and Indigenous communities.
• Demonstrated expertise in content development for a variety of audiences and media.
• Strong understanding of and appreciation for Indigenous cultures, traditions, history, and protocols.
• Must possess strong communication skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent organizational/time management skills.
• Demonstrated ability to build and maintain multi-stakeholder relationships.
• Advanced skills in Indigenous research methodologies is considered an asset.
• Ability to travel within Canada throughout the year.
• Working knowledge of MS Office, internet, and general office equipment.
• Current Police Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening is required.

Preference will be given to:

• Candidates with lived experience of Indigenous cultures and heritage
• Working knowledge of Indigenous traditional languages or French
