Job description
Become an integral part of our dynamic team as an Out of School Care Coordinator and take on a pivotal role in spearheading the growth of our childcare spaces! The OSC Coordinator is responsible for day-to-day front-line operations of the Out of School Care Program, and they work closely with the OSC Team Leads and front-line staff to ensure that program delivery is holistic and aligned with the organization’s values and the Early Learning Framework.
The ideal candidate has a passion for creating inclusive child centred childcare spaces and helps to implement developmentally appropriate emergent curriculum based on the interests of the children; while ensuring the health and safety of all children are met through Child Care Licensing Regulations and Fernwood NRG Child Care policies. Self-awareness of personal values, biases, and the ability to see how these affect your practice are fundamental to be able to succeed in this role.
Management status: non-Management
Hours/work schedule: Full-time position up to a maximum of 40 hrs/week, Monday-Friday. Scheduled shifts may fall between 7:00 am - 6:00 pm.
Work location(s): Fernwood Community Centre, George Jay Elementary, and Fiddleheads Studios
Position category: This is a temporary position for a leave replacement of 13 months - with possibility to extend.
Reports to: OSC Manager
Direct Reports: OSC Team leads; oversees the coordination and duties of OSC Front Line staff
Compensation & Benefits
Salary/Wage Band: $48,880-$52,000 per year

General Responsibilities
- Ensures the health and wellbeing of the children by being supportive, caring and present.
- Provides leadership and direction within a team.
- Ensures that all licensing requirements are met.
- Primary point of contact for parents and guardians.
- Administrative and coordination duties, including but not limited to: Maintenance of children’s files, communication with parents/guardians, inventory of supplies and materials.
- Promotes social-emotional wellbeing of all by identifying and labeling emotions in self and others.
- Designs supportive, emergent and inclusive environments.
- Promotes a child’s social-emotional development through individual observations and activities.
- Establishes and implements clear appropriate expectations, limits, and guidelines for developmentally appropriate behaviour.
- Builds and maintains professional working relationships with parents/guardians and co-workers.
- Assists with daily cleaning and sanitizing.
- Other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
- Ability to lift and move chairs, cots, mats, etc. (up to 30lbs).
- Ability to work positively in a busy and loud environment.
- Ability to work outside in a variety of weather conditions.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time, run occasionally, crouch and bend frequently.
Qualifications/Skills/Requirements

- Responsible Adult certification in BC required.
- Experience working directly with children aged 5-11.
- Experience working with children on the high needs spectrum and children facing conditions of risk.
Preference given to candidates with the following skills, assets, or experience:
- ECEA Certification considered an asset.
- Familiar with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act’s Child Care Licensing Regulations and Child Care Operating Funding.
- Leadership and/or management experience (paid or volunteer)
- Familiar with Microsoft Office in a working environment.
- An understanding of and commitment to the importance of client confidentiality.
- Commitment to justice, equity, diversity, decolonization, and inclusion, including the ability to appreciate diversity, different opinions, lived experiences, backgrounds, and personality types.
- Ability to problem-solve and prioritize tasks with minimal supervision.
- Experience with and an understanding of the importance of confidentiality.
- Ability to follow instructions and willingness to assume and carry out assigned tasks and to be accountable for results and actions, including quality of work.
- Oral communications skills in languages spoken in our neighbourhood other than English, e.g., Japanese, Arabic, French

Other Requirements
