The school incorporates both the Dene and Cree Language, culture, and Land-Based Education where students learn about their rich local history. Educational Assistants (EA) who are organized and looking for an enriching experience to be part of the new school team. The Educational Assistant will assist students who require additional support. The EA works with individuals or a small group of students on literacy, numeracy, and English language learner programs. This is a full-time position reporting directly to the Principal of Elsie Fabian School .
KEY RESPONSIBITIES Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to: - Work collaboratively under guidance from the CST, the teacher(s), and any other member of the multidisciplinary team to support children with literacy and numeracy needs.
- Follow any IPP/ISP strategies as directed by the teacher and Classroom Support Teacher.
- Implement the reading intervention programming with minimal supervision.
- Schedule time weekly with the teacher to communicate the teacher intervention plan and successes of individual students with the teacher.
- Seek out additional work when applicable and be flexible to support all learners within the school when needed.
- Able to work with technology and/or willingness to learn how to implement iPads, Chromebooks, Smart Boards, etc. into daily intervention.
- Work on literacy and numeracy approaches with individual students or small groups.
- Follow daily reading, writing, or numeracy activities under the direction of the teacher or CST.
- Organize and prepare program materials, games, supplies, and wall displays.
- Work with computer programs to assist literacy, numeracy, and/or spoken English development.
- Daily record-keeping for student behavior, literacy, and numeracy.
- Complete term progress checklists with the teacher.
- Provide support for learners to promote vocabulary, oral comprehension, and ability to communicate in English.
- Share information with the teacher, ensuring any achievements and difficulties in the work of students are reported, discussed, and remediated.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
KEY REQUIREMENTS - Educational Assistant Certificate is required
- Related degree or diploma is considered an asset
- An equivalent combination of directly related post-secondary education and directly related experience may be considered
- Experience working in a First Nations community including knowledge of First Nations culture, traditions and values is a definite asset
- Clean Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector required
- Valid class 5 Driver’s License & Clean Driver’s Abstract required
- Successful candidate will be required to live in (or relocate to) Fort McMurray, Alberta
