Our integrated team provides exceptional service in creating and maintaining Western’s facilities and in serving the community.

About Us

The Department of Facilities Development and Engineering (FDE) assumes the key accountabilities in planning, development and construction of all buildings, infrastructure and sites.

Responsibilities

The WES Operations Specialist (Building Automation) is the primary operator for the Western Environmental System (WES) and leads the operation of the campus computerized control system. The WES Operations Specialist (Building Automation) is responsible for overseeing the control strategies which determine when and/or how the building environmental systems are to operate, which directly affects the indoor environment for the entire University community. WES is a computerized control system used for monitoring and optimising the energy consumption of building heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems on campus. The Specialist is responsible for the operation of the Central Control Room which involves the operation and monitoring of more than 10,000 building environmental systems with tens of thousands of connected points, more than 500 of which are critically alarmed 24/7.
