Cabot has an exciting opportunity for a Capital Project Engineer to work in our Sarnia Carbon Black Manufacturing Facility. Cabot is a leading player in the carbon black industry, dedicated to delivering high-quality products and sustainable solutions. We are seeking a skilled and motivated Capital Project Engineer to join our dynamic team and contribute to the continuous improvement of our manufacturing facilities.
The Capital Project Engineer will support the capital project management team in a brownfield environment. Capital projects will vary in size from <$100k to $3M. The Capital Project Engineer also assists the Maintenance Department in execution of major maintenance / shut down projects that require engineering oversight and/or support from external resources.
- Identify Opportunities – Set project goals, conduct concept feasibility studies, and create strategies for potential solutions to site projects.
- Analyze Alternatives – Working closely with cross-functional teams, develop the project scope and identify the options that will best suit the site for enhanced efficiency, reduced costs, and improve product quality.
- Detail the Options – Using established relationships with local EPCs, guide the project through FEED and TIC estimating.
- Design and Procurement – Provide leadership through all phases of design and steward the project in line with appropriate Management of Change (MOC) principles. Provide technical consultation and review for engineering related issues including standards and codes, engineering data, scope of work, and deliverables. Collaborate with internal and external partners, vendors, and contractors to ensure that Cabot’s standards are followed. Provide technical support for procurement and contract evaluations.
- Construct And Commission – Deliver hands-on oversight as the project progresses to through construction to field completion and commissioning. Troubleshoot during commissioning and initial operation.
- Safety and Environmental Compliance : Supports efforts to implement and maintain the Responsible Care® Management System in line with the requirements of the RC14001® technical specification, as applicable to the site/region.
- A self-starter with excellent time management and organizational skills including the ability to prioritize personal and project efforts in a fast paced and evolving environment.
- Experience in developing project requirements and plans, preparing cost estimates, participating in requests for proposal and contract bidding and award processes, managing projects in the execution phase, and managing project closeout.
- Excellent ability in coordinating and scheduling project resources (EPCs, trades, internal support functions). Competency in MS-Projects is considered a plus.
- Knowledge of engineering principles and theories in multiple engineering disciplines. The candidate must be able to work on project teams with multiple disciplines and multiple departments. Ideally, the candidate brings with them a history of technical work in at least one discipline.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills are a must . Ability to effectively engage in verbal and written communications that are timely, concise, clear, and relevant while delivering with empathy with a broad range of stakeholders.
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.
- 5 - 7 years of Project Execution experience in a Hydrocarbon or Chemical Processing environment.
- Professional Engineer License or eligible for licensure by PEO.
- PMP designation is considered a plus.
