Job description
Reporting to the Eastern Regional Environmental Manager this role ensures compliance with all Federal, Provincial, and Local Environmental Regulations, including but not limited to Air Quality, Land and Water Pollution Control, and Hazardous & Solid Waste Management. They identify root causes of waste fiber and wastewater generation and is pro-active in creating and managing a balanced waste conservation system.
Responsibilities
• Follows and promotes Health & Safety policies and programs while modeling core values.
• Collaborates with plant personnel to verify control measures are being incorporated and routine monitoring is completed
• Coordinate management of any spills or bypasses, initiate clean-up, sampling, and follow-up activities
• Monitor and calibrate all environmental testing equipment
• Liaison with federal and provincial regulatory departments in securing and maintaining site specific licensing/permits
• Conducts preliminary project reviews, assist with project permitting
• Collaborate with the Safety Manager and provide coverage during their absence.
• Performs other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
• Post-secondary education in Environmental Science, or a related science/engineering discipline
• An understanding of all environmental regulations
Preferred Qualifications
• 3+ years’ experience
• Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, with strong organizational and computer skills
• Certified in Transportation of Dangerous Goods
