Job Summary
NL Health Services Pharmacy Department is seeking a motivated professional to fill a Clinical Pharmacist IE position. The position will require involvement in both drug distribution activities and clinical services. Specifically, this would involve working in an interdisciplinary team setting to optimize patient outcomes by enhancing the efficacy and safety of pharmacotherapy. The Clinical Pharmacist will be required to effectively manage multi-disease states and complex pharmacotherapy regimens. As a teaching facility, the Clinical Pharmacist will be a preceptor to Pharmacy students and will provide on-going pharmacotherapy education to a variety of health care professionals and students both informally and through formal presentations. Participation in committees and relevant working groups may be required. There is an expectation that the Clinical Pharmacist will be on-call and will provide relief to other areas as needed.

This position maintains accountability to the Professional Practice Consultant for Pharmacy for integrity and professional practice issues.

Job Demands

Regularly stands or walks when performing activities.
Constantly uses fine finger/precision work using hand tools; visual concentration is required to read and interpret drug orders, calculate dosages, ensure medications are dispensed properly, read clinical studies, drug monographs, patient specific laboratory results, and to inspect and check drug amounts/preparations.
A high level of alertness and concentration is required to do this work.
There is lack of control over the work pace and works under tight time pressures.
Regularly prepares compounds or dispenses toxic drugs, IV mixtures, etc., and when performing this activity is constantly exposed to hazardous chemicals.

Job Qualifications
Graduation from a recognized School of Pharmacy is required.
Current licensure and in good standing with the Newfoundland and Labrador Pharmacy Board is required.
Authorized for opioid dependence treatment is required.
Authorized by the NLPB to prescribe drug therapy is required.
Doctor of Pharmacy Degree is an asset.
Completion of a hospital residency program is an asset.
Previous hospital pharmacy experience is an asset.
Demonstrated specialized clinical pharmacy services as defined by the site such as pharmacokinetic/therapeutic drug evaluations/monitoring and anticoagulation assessment/monitoring.
Demonstrated ability to integrate and evaluate pertinent data to problem-solve and make decisions effectively.
Demonstrated critical thinking, problem solving and decision making using a systems approach.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary environment and provide clinical consultation.
Ability to work autonomously prioritizing patient needs.
Demonstrated effective communication, both verbally and in writing with co-workers, patients and their families.
Exhibited strong written and oral communication skills as well as the ability to deliver/facilitate effective presentations.
Possessed proven analytical, collaboration and organizational skills.
Demonstrated ability to provide direction, supervision, mentorship and training to Pharmacy Technicians/students and Pharmacy students.
Proven ability to assume professional responsibility for safe, ethical and effective practice.
A satisfactory record of work performance is required.
