They will be reporting to the Mine Engineering Coordinator. This position is to provide flexible and diverse additional technical support to the survey and breakthrough planning teams within open pit technical services to accommodate the variable work demands for the teams. Strong communication skills and a willingness to work with a diverse group of people is necessary.

 

Purpose

Provide diverse technical support to the open pit operation covering surveying and breakthrough planning duties.

Safety & Sustainability Expectations

• Become familiar with all aspects of the Fatality Risk Management.
• Be proactive with respect to safety. Report and correct hazards as they are identified.
• Accountable for own health and safety performance as well as wellbeing of those in the workplace.
• Conform to the critical control verification process on site.
• Follow operating procedures, Occupational Health and Safety Act; company policies and comply with all regulatory requirements

Essential Duties

• Provide assistance to the survey team by performing the following tasks when requested:
  • Drone flights as outlined by the Lead Surveyor
  • Pattern layouts/pick-ups, and dig toe pick-ups
  • Grade checks (dumps, ramps, floors, stockpiles, etc)
  • Data processing
• Provide assistance to the breakthrough planning team by performing the following tasks when requested:
  • Drill pattern design and/or peer review
  • Extension or probe hole design and/or peer review
  • Loading package design and/or peer review
  • Dig limit and restricted area design and lay-out
  • Waste dump design
  • Void model updates
  • Data analysis
  • Field visits for design verification and quality control purposes. 
• Support business improvement initiatives within both the planning and survey teams.
• Other supporting tasks within the survey and breakthrough planning teams as directed by the Mine Engineering Coordinator.

Training & Experience

• Completion of a post-secondary education program
• Experience in surveying and breakthrough planning are essential. 
• Competency in computer technologies for data processing and spatial design. Experience with Deswik, PointStudio and Pix4D is preferred.
• Having a drone pilot license would be considered an asset.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills with a proven ability to work with others.

This is a site based position in Timmins, ON
