GIS Technologist

Located on the Trent-Severn Waterway in the heart of the Kawartha tourism region, Peterborough is a unique community known for its exceptional quality of life and beautiful setting. Temporary 1 year contract

Position Description

Assist in the development and maintenance of the corporate Geographic Information System (GIS) through the collection, input and verification of both spatial and attribute data.  Prepare and maintain corporate maps, graphics, plans, and schematics using both GIS and mapping software. 

Qualifications and Other Pertinent Details

Knowledge and experience normally associated with a three (3) year College Diploma in a Geospatial related field, e.g. GIS, Cartography, Geomatics in addition to 2 years’ experience (preferably in a municipal setting).  The incumbent will have well-developed interpersonal and communication skills; strong organizational and time management skills; the ability to manage competing priorities and coordinate a number of tasks at one time; and the ability to work with minimal supervision.  Must be a team player with a commitment to quality customer service.  The incumbent must have knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS suite of products and be familiar with Oracle Spatial and Relational Database Technology in addition to Adobe Illustrator and Microsoft Office Suite.  Must have knowledge of current GIS software releases, and programming languages.  Must be capable of reading and understanding Engineering design plans, site plans, draft plans of subdivision, registered subdivision plans, etc. to develop policies and procedures for the transfer of data into GIS.  The incumbent must have excellent mathematical skills including trigonometry for survey calculations, formulas for calculating map scale or map page sizes and to convert mapping software design units to metric or imperial scales.

Certification as a GIS Professional (GISP) by the GIS Certification Institute would be an asset.

Hourly rate: $33.53
