Job description
Position Summary:
Reporting directly to the Purchasing Manager, the Buyer will be responsible for the tactical procurement of commodities, supplies, equipment, material and services to be used by Stage Windows and Doors as well as coordinate with production and warehouse personnel in order to maintain an appropriate level of inventory.
The Buyer will utilize expert knowledge to purchase goods and services at the most favorable price for the Company, while simultaneously building and maintaining strategic relationships with key suppliers. The Buyer will organize activities involved with procuring goods and services, including all administration, scheduling, tracking, quality assurance, and inventory control.
The Buyer will review requisitions and confer with vendors to obtain product or service information, such as price, availability, and delivery schedule. Working within a small team, the right candidate will be passionate about delivering high-quality work, with a “roll up your sleeves” kind of attitude.
This is a full-time position that requires strong organizational, interpersonal, detail-oriented skills and someone who is well-versed in window specifications and data entry. The successful candidate will be disciplined, punctual, and a strong team player.
Responsibilities: - Responsible for all procurement and purchasing activities on assigned projects
- Select products for purchase by testing, observing, or examining items and materials
- Reviews bid proposals and negotiates contracts within budgetary limitations and under the direction of the Purchasing Manager
- Prepares purchase orders or bid requests
- Compiles data from vendor invoices and supporting documents in collaboration with the Finance department to verify the accuracy of billing data and ensures receipt of items ordered Investigates and resolves billing discrepancies and transactions
- Develops and maintains purchasing database and compiles data to generate weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports to be used for cost control initiatives
- Sources, negotiates, contracts and executes agreements to fulfill daily business needs
- Maintains manual or computerized procurement records, such as items or services purchased, costs, delivery, product quality or performance, and inventories
- Discusses defective or unacceptable goods or services with the Purchasing Manager, Quality, and Production personnel, users, vendors, and other stakeholders to determine corrective action
- Ensures all contract administration procedures are followed and executed in a professional manner
- Partners with production and quality departments with ongoing administration of contracts with suppliers and vendors and ensures compliance with established contract and procedure requirements
- Other duties as assigned
Education & Experience:
- College education with purchasing/ supply chain certification an asset
- 2+ years of progressive experience in a purchasing role
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills to communicate effectively with all levels within the organization and with external stakeholders
- Strong writing skills for creating reports, correspondence, contracts, requests, bids, and other documentation.
- Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills
- Demonstrated understanding of purchasing and contracting techniques and procedures
- Strong computer skills in a Windows environment
- Experience in gathering data and compiling information
- Basic mathematical skills with the ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, percentages and averages required
- A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills ·
- Able to build and maintain lasting relationships with corporate departments, key business partners, and stakeholders
- Knowledge of laws, ordinances, and regulations pertaining to corporate purchasing practices
- Team player able to contribute to project execution in a flexible and dynamic environment with competing priorities
