We are hiring a full-time, permanent Machine Shop Lead/CNC Machinist to join our team in Grimsby and lead our Manufacturing Department! Please note that this is a working-supervisory role.

Shift Schedule: Monday to Friday, day shift – 8:00am start time

Wage: $35-$40/hour depending on experience

Overview:

• Report to Plant Manager
• Set-up, programming, and operation of CNC 3-axis Mill, CNC 5-axis Mill, or CNC Lathe
• Use of SolidWorks
• Oversee and lead manufacturing department, including operators, machinists, welders, apprentices, and administrative support
• Ensure manufacturing department members are meeting timeline and quality expectations
• Communication and coordination with other departments and senior management regarding project updates, issues, etc.
• Assist Manufacturing Admin with planning and coordination of materials
• Facilitate training and development of all manufacturing department team members
• Assist HR with hiring process for manufacturing department as needed
• Assist with department enhancement and innovation
• General cleaning of workspace
• Ensure team is working safely and adhering to VTR’s mission, vision, and values
• Use of other manual mills, saws, and other machinery as needed
• Other general labour tasks as required

Requirements & Prerequisites

What you’ll Bring:

• Minimum 2-3 years of management or supervisory experience within a manufacturing environment; experience leading, organizing, and scheduling a team
• Minimum 5 years of proven experience in set-up, programming, and operation of CNC 3-axis Mill, CNC 5-axis Mill, or CNC Lathe using SolidWorks
• Completion of General Machinist 429A CoQ/CoA or related trade
• Must be comfortable standing for long periods of time
• Forklift certification preferred but willing to train
• Mechanically inclined and strong problem-solving skills
• Proven leadership skills and ability to delegate tasks
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Proven high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-function team
• Able to work and manage a team following tight deadlines
• Demonstrates flexibility and the ability to prioritize and manage conflicting demands
• Strong understanding of Health & Safety practices in a manufacturing environment
