Job description
The Provincial Capital Commission (PCC) provides enhanced visitor experiences and educational programming in Wascana Centre and at the Government House to inspire pride in Saskatchewan's Capital City. The Provincial Capital Commissions strategic focus is to enhance the quality of life in the Capital city by creating community partnerships, promoting visitor experiences, and providing stewardship of the land and assets managed by the Provincial Capital Commission. Reporting to the Forestry & Pest Control Supervisor, the successful candidate will be responsible for directing the work of the pest control crews.
As the Pest Control Lead, you will:
- Identify common tree pests and diseases in an urban forest setting.
- Assist in the development and implementation of the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program for Wascana Centre and Government House.
- Mix and apply chemicals to control and eliminate pests and diseases in turf, trees, shrubs and hardscapes within Wascana Centre.
- Use control measures that may involve manual methods including humane animal dispatch.
- Operate equipment (e.g. small vehicle, small tractors, and other tools and machinery).
- Perform minor equipment maintenance and repairs.
- Read maps, labels, gauges, MSDS sheets and mixing charts.
- Ensure accurate measuring for mixing chemicals.
- Record and maintain accurate records of various pest control measures undertaken.
- Assign and schedule the work of others.
- Give instruction and direction to pest control crews.
- Provide training for pest control crews.
- Develop work methods and standards.
- Final check and evaluate the work of others.
- Provide input into performance assessments.
- Participate in forestry related tasks, including pruning and planting and removals.
- Understand and follow applicable health and safety laws and ensure that workers understand and follow them.
