Our University is actively seeking an International Admissions Immigration Specialist (IAIS) . Reporting to the Director, Enrollment Management, also collaborating with the International Admissions & International Student Recruitment teams, the IAIS is responsible for providing services to international applicants that may improve the quality of their study permit application and commence their studies at YU/TFS.
The ideal candidate must be a licensed RCIC, have extensive knowledge of Canadian Immigration law, excellent written and research skills, experience in developing processes and evaluating effectiveness, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and ideally have proven experience working with international students specifically.

- Develop a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to guide the procedures and processes for student visa application.
- Establish procedures/plans to evaluate the effectiveness of new SOP process .
- Assist in the collection of documents from international applicants to ensure application completion and validate prior to submission to internal teams.
- Maintain expertise in Canadian immigration and refugee legislation, regulations, and policies and website navigation to ensure YU policies/workflows in compliance with legislation requirements
- Stay on track with changing IRCC regulations and policies, conduct assessment of any impact/potential risk for both students and YU, proactively share the changes within /outside the department.
- Integrate critical thinking, problem solving and good judgement to inform decisions and identify actions.
- Provide necessary training to YU staff to adhere to policies and procedures.
- Conduct consultations with international applicants and provide advice on their Canadian immigration process, questions and concerns.
- Schedule in person/zoom appointments or phone calls with international applicants as needed.
- Proactively assess international applicant's needs and situations to mitigate risk to YU.
- Work collaboratively with internal colleagues in other teams (Admissions, Enrolment Services/International Admissions Office, International Student Recruitment, Registrar’s Office, Student Services, Compliance) on cross-functional projects and initiatives, to support the strategic imperatives.
- Work collaboratively with external colleagues in the key partner organizations.
- Conduct webinars and in person information sessions with students.
- Perform all other duties assigned.
- Accredited as a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC).
- 2-5 years experience working directly with immigration consultation, preferably providing immigration advice to international post-secondary students.
- Ability to demonstrate extensive knowledge of Canadian Immigration law, including but not limited to, current applicable legislation and compliance requirements, sharing of best practices to optimize the student and/or employee experience; and contributing to a team environment in support of the corporate strategic imperatives.
- Experience in processes development, implementation and evaluation.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with strong MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams).
- Strong attention to detail, problem solving and highly organized.
- Excellent research and analytical skills.
- Experience utilizing virtual communication methods, e.g. Zoom webinars, social media channels.
- Experience working with and advocating for students from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Ability to work collaboratively, and maintain strong relationships, with internal and external partners.
- Fluency in other languages is an asset.
