Employment Counsellor, Base 4 Success (FT Permanent Role)
The Employment Counsellor’s role is to support participants of 360°kids’ Base4Success employment program in order to maintain their employment placement opportunities. Participants will be counselled throughout their pre-employment workshops and placement opportunities. The Employment Counsellor will promote 360˚kids’ Base4Success program to employers and the community, bringing awareness to the benefits of mentoring youth to attain their goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accompany participants to interviews and “first day on the job”.
- Check in with participants as deemed necessary (daily, twice/week, once /week, etc.)
- Problem solve challenges in the workplace.
- Introduce coping strategies for the workplace.
- Introduce self-care and self-awareness.
- Provide extended employer support and training around mentorship of a young person facing mental health.
- Advocate with employers for participants to sustain placements.
- Attend meetings with employers and participant (job carving, scheduling, etc.)
- Facilitate mental health excursion where safe self-care and coping strategies will be introduced and modelled.
- Assist youth with further developing employment/employability skills including but not limited to: job search skills and interview techniques, resume preparation, career exploration, budgeting, time management, and soft skills such as communication, problem solving, self-care/awareness, stress management and leadership.
- Relationship building and assessment of youth to ensure successful job matching.
- Coach and support youth throughout program, ensuring that their needs are met.
- Act as a positive role model, mentor, and support for youth as they learn new skills.
- Marketing, outreach, and promotion of program to employers and community.
- Represents the organization and program as required with various aspects of the community including agency partners, employers, donors, coworkers, volunteers, schools, clients, and family members.
- Participate in the program intake process.
QUALIFICATIONS OR SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Post-Secondary degree/diploma Child/youth related field (e.g. Child and Youth, Social Service Worker, Social Worker, Psychology, Sociology) or the equivalent combination of education and experience working with youth.
- Knowledge of the job market and the Employment Standards Act.
- Counselling experience in terms of life skills and behavior management; assessment, intake, and case management skills.
- Exceptional relationship building skills, excellent communication, interpersonal, and organization skills; motivated, has a strong work ethic, empathetic, and must be able to work with a team.
- Must possess excellent communication skills and have the ability to be adaptable with a flexible approach taking into consideration the unique qualities of each client.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills that promote positive team building, negotiation and conflict resolution.
- Current First Aid/CPR certification, current vulnerable sector screening (criminal background check), car and valid driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract.
- Car and valid driver’s license required.
