Introduction

The Fisheries Branch is seeking passionate and energetic individuals with a passion for fish to work as Hatchery Technicians at the Swan Creek Walleye Hatchery.

Duties:

The Hatchery Technician will assist in all parts of the seasonal operations at the Swan Creek Walleye Hatchery. This includes; the capture and spawning of wild Walleye broodstock, operation and maintenance of fish culture facilities, as well as the culture and distribution of Walleye fry within the Province of Manitoba. This will include pounding posts, net making and setting for the capture of fish and set-up of spawning equipment on the Swan Creek estuary. Seasonal start up and winterization of hatchery and other buildings, along with minor repairs, plumbing and ground maintenance. Rearing of walleye eggs at the hatchery facility, involving syphoning, bath treatments, record keeping and general around-the-clock care. The main hatchery is located approximately 16 kms southwest of the town of Lundar on an island at the mouth of the Swan Creek on Lake Manitoba.
