The Quebec Waterways Unit manages five historic canals stretching from Montreal to the St. Lawrence, Richelieu and Outaouais rivers. These canals are situated in three important tourism regions in the province and also have numerous collaborations with important stakeholders and partners

Intent of the process
We are looking to fill a temporary and/or a permanent position.
This process could be used to create a list of qualified candidates to fill similar positions with different employee statuses, security levels or linguistic profiles, in this same location or elsewhere in the country.

EDUCATION
Graduation with a degree from a recognised university with specialisation in environmental and/or natural sciences (e.g. biology, ecology, geology) or other discipline relevant to the position, or an acceptable combination of two years of a post-secondary program related to environmental and/or natural sciences (e.g. biology, ecology, geology), training and experience in a field related to the position.
Degree equivalency
EXPERIENCE
- Experience in conducting and/or reviewing environmental impact assessments;
- Experience preparing and reviewing technical/scientific reports,
- Experience in writing documents, presentations, web-based information or public presentations;
- Experience in developing environmental recommendations and/or environmental mitigation strategies;
- Experience in the use of various computer programs for data entry and management (e.g. Excel, databases, geographic information systems (GIS).

KNOWLEDGE
- Knowledge of environmental and impact assessment laws, policies and/or procedures;
- Knowledge of methods and procedures applicable to scientific testing and/or data/sample collection;
- Knowledge of environmental management and/or theories and principles of environmental and natural sciences.
ABILITIES
- Ability to follow appropriate protocols for data/sample collection and compilation;
- Ability to carry out active resource management and monitoring projects;
- Ability to prepare and review environmental impact assessments;
- Ability to analyse and consolidate spatial and non-spatial scientific data.

ASSET EXPERIENCE
- Field experience in a variety of environments.
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of the Federal Action Plan for Contaminated Sites or Nature legacy program;
- Knowledge of the aquatic/terrestrial environment, vegetation and wildlife specific to Parks Canada protected areas.
Conditions of employment
Reliability Status security clearance - - A security status screening is undertaken by Parks Canada for candidates who are successful in the competition. Our Human Resource team is available to answer any questions applicants may have on this process and are able to make accommodations during this process if requested.
OTHER CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Valid class 5 driver’s license;
- Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform and prescribed protective equipment;
- Willingness to work and/or travel in varied terrain, weather conditions, isolated locations and by various means of transportation;
- Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays, when required;
- Willingness to obtain work-related certification (e.g. confined spaces, ASP Construction, etc.).
