Job description

The mandate of the Department of Justice is to administer justice, including policing, community justice, victims services and corrections in the Northwest Territories. This mandate will be carried out in a manner which respects community and indigenous values and encourages communities to assume increasing responsibilities.

The French Legal Translator is responsible for the preparation of bills, regulations and other statutory instruments for the Government and Legislative Assembly to provide all legislation in both English and French.

Reporting to the Director, Legislation Division, the French Legal Translator is responsible for preparing French and English version of bills, regulations and other legal material and ensuring that the legal meaning expressed in both English and French versions of the legislation or other material is the same. You will be required to make decisions and recommendations as to the organization and the content of the French versions of legislation.

To be successful in this role, the above qualifications would be attained by:
A Bachelors of Law Degree plus six months' experience in translation, or a Bachelor of Laws degree plus six months' post secondary training in translation.
